“You’re willing to wake up George?” Suzy was surprised.
“Yes!” Wendy said painfully, her voice trembling “After everything I’ve done to wrong your family and Albert, it’s time I made amends.”
George had indeed used self–hypnosis, but Wendy knew the exact phrase to wake him up. No one else understood what it was, but the moment Wendy leaned close and whispered in his ear, his tightly shut eyes snapped open almost immediately.
“Mom, is the danger over?” George asked excitedly as soon as he awoke. “Thank goodness I used the self–hypnosis trick Miss Charlotte taught me! Otherwise, that little brat Suzy would’ve succeeded!”
“So, Charlotte was the one who taught you this trick?”
Suzy’s sudden voice startled George. “You–how are you here…”

gaze darted between Suzy and Wendy before locking on Wendy’s face. His brows furrowed deeply. “Mom, didn’t I tell you not to wake me up until the danger was completely gone?”
“Son…” Wendy said, her tone earnest and pleading. “Tell Miss Frost everything you know.”
“Miss Frost?” George’s scowl deepened. “You’re calling her Miss Frost? What did she do to bribe you into changing your attitude so quickly?”
“She didn’t do anything! I’ve simply realized my mistakes!” Wendy’s voice was heavy with guilt. “We’ve been deceived all along. Zack lied to me, and Charlotte used you. Stop being so stubborn and tell her where her father is!”

The only reason he had almost revealed the truth earlier wasn’t out of fear of Suzy but to trigger his self–hypnosis. Knowing how effective it was, he was convinced Suzy wouldn’t dare act recklessly again.
As George reveled in his perceived triumph, a sudden slap broke his composure. Wendy had hit him.
Clutching his stinging cheek, George stared at her in disbelief. “You hit me? You’ve never hit me before not once in my entire life. And now, you hit me? For an outsider?”
“George, do you even realize the situation you’re in?” Wendy snapped. “Charlotte is dead! Even if you guard that secret with your life, she can’t offer you anything anymore!”
