“I don’t know!” Wendy denied flatly. “Even though he’s my son, he stopped sharing much with me after he grew up. Especially in the past two years, he’s been habitually leaving early and returning late. Sometimes, he wouldn’t come home for several days.
“Even when he does come back, he locks himself in his room and barely talks to me.
“That’s why, as you mentioned earlier, I wasn’t worried when he didn’t come home for a few days–it’s become the norm. Once, he didn’t come back for over a month. At first, I was worried, but after it happened so many times, I got used to it!
“As for your claim that he knows self–hypnosis and I should know about it as his mother–let me ask you, do you tell your parents everything you’re capable of?”
“Is that so?” Suzy said, clearly unconvinced. “So, you’re saying you know nothing about George?”
“At least regarding self–hypnosis, I truly don’t know!” Wendy replied earnestly, looking Suzy in the eye. “But I think I’ve guessed your identity now. You’re Miss Frost, aren’t you?”
“Figured it out?” Suzy stared at Wendy intently. “I thought you’d keep pretending not to recognize me.”
“I wasn’t pretending. I genuinely didn’t recognize you at first,” Wendy explained. “When I saw you, you seemed familiaf, like I’d seen you somewhere before, but I couldn’t remember where.
“It was when you smiled earlier that I suddenly realized that you’re Miss Frost!”
Her tone grew increasingly emotional. “It’s because your eyes are so similar to your mother’s! Thinking about her still makes me sad.
“She was such a wonderful person, always so kind to us. She took care of our whole family back then. I never expected her life to end so tragically.
“And my husband…”
At the mention of her late husband, Wendy burst into tears. “Before the accident, we had plans. He was going to work a few more years, and then we’d move back to our hometown.
“My parents were getting old, and we couldn’t stay away forever. We planned to save enough money to buy a house and bring them to live with us. Who would’ve thought he’d meet with an accident just days later?”
Her grief appeared genuine as if she deeply missed her husband. But Suzy saw right through her act.
“Wendy, if you truly missed Mr. Mason, you wouldn’t have remarried so soon after his death, taking George along with you!”

Wendy’s expression froze. “That’s nonsense! I never remarried. I’ve been on my own all these years!”
“Is that so?” Suzy tossed a stack of photos onto the table in front of Wendy. “On the surface, you’re living alone, but behind the scenes, that’s not the case.
“You and your next–door neighbor may appear to be just neighbors, but in reality, you’re husband and wife. The only thing missing is that piece of paper to make it official. For all these years, you’ve been sneaking around, thinking no one would notice?”
Wendy’s face immediately changed as she looked at the photos. “Where did you get these?” They had always been extremely cautious, never going out together. How could Suzy have obtained so many pictures?
Suzy smirked coldly. “Wake George up, and I’ll tell you.”
“I can’t wake him up!” Wendy protested.
“Is that so?” Suzy signaled for Allen. “Then let’s have George’s stepfather come over too!”
