Chapter 0548
Finally, Drake stirred as if waking from a nap, letting out a yawn before speaking. “What did you just say?”
It had to be said–Drake’s voice was surprisingly pleasant. Deep and rich, like the sound of a cello.
Still, Suzy didn’t hold much hope for his appearance.
After all, men in the underworld usually looked rough and intimidating–broad shoulders, burly frames, and not much else. A handsome man wouldn’t likely take this path.
And considering the choking stench of smoke in the room when she first entered, she figured he was probably hideous, with yellowed teeth to match.
Barret eagerly replied, “I brought you a birthday gift, Mr. Drake!”
This time, Drake responded immediately. “Leave it.”
Barret didn’t waste a second, casting a meaningful glance at Aruna.
Aruna hesitated briefly before placing Suzy on a nearby sofa. Her gaze lingered on Drake, her expression complicated, before she turned and left with Barret.
The spacious private room was now silent, leaving only Suzy and Drake.
Suzy half–expected Drake to come over immediately to inspect his “gift,” especially after Barret’s over–the–top praises.
But instead, Drake remained seated, unmoving.
Was he not interested in women? Or could he be suffering from sexual dysfunction?
Since he didn’t move, she didn’t either.
Time passed, and after at least twenty minutes long enough for Suzy to feel herself drifting off to sleep–Drake finally got up.
So, he wasn’t sexually impaired after all. She’d half–expected him to be like Dylan.
His build, though–broad shoulders and a narrow waist–was unexpectedly decent.
Drake didn’t come over but instead walked to the liquor cabinet, poured himself a glass of wine, and strolled to the floor–to–ceiling window. With one swift motion, he downed the entire glass, then stood there gazing out at the distant horizon.
There was an air of melancholy about him, a quiet loneliness that seemed to seep from his very being.
“Is he feeling emo?” Suzy wondered, amused by the thought.

Chapter 0549
Even a mob boss had his troubles, apparently. Could it be… heartbreak?
As a doctor, she briefly considered offering him some psychological relief. Who knows? Maybe they could even become friends, and through him, she might uncover her father’s whereabouts.
Just as she was running through her plan in her head, Drake’s voice broke the silence.
“How long are you planning to keep pretending?
Suzy was speechless. Was he talking to her?
Did he know she was faking?
How could he have known? Barret and Aruna hadn’t noticed a thing the entire way here. So how had he figured it out?
Or… was he talking to someone else? Could there be another person in the room?
Suzy stayed motionless, watching Drake carefully and waiting for his next move. If there really was someone else, she didn’t want to reveal herself unnecessarily and fall into a trap.
This was Drake’s territory, and she had no way of gauging his true strength yet. Caution was paramount.
Drake chuckled lightly. “If you enjoy pretending, then I’ll play along.”
As soon as Suzy saw Drake turn around, she quickly shut her eyes.
She felt the oppressive aura radiating from him grow stronger as he approached, until his shadow loomed over her, swallowing her whole.
So, he was talking to her just now.
Suzy was even more baffled. How had he figured out she was pretending?
Her disguise had been flawless–no cracks, no tells. And yet, he’d seen through.it. What was even more unsettling was that he’d had his back to her the entire time.
This Drake wasn’t someone to underestimate.
Since he already knew the truth, there was no point in continuing the charade.
The moment Drake leaned down toward her, Suzy’s eyes snapped open, and with lightning speed, she grabbed him by the throat.
But as his face came into view, Suzy froze, stunned.
