Her clueless expression was a rare sight, and it instantly amused Allen, who chuckled. “Oh, it’s there. A strong smell. Maybe try sniffing again?”
Unaware of the mischief glinting in Allen’s eyes, Riley earnestly leaned in for another sniff. “What smell? I can’t catch anything at all!”
Suddenly, Allen cupped her chin, his intense gaze locking onto hers. “Jealousy. A strong whiff of it.”
Riley was speechless.
His fiery eyes seemed to burn straight into her soul, and Riley felt her heartbeat falter. Her cheeks flushed uncontrollably, heating up like a ripe red apple.
The sight of her, biting her lip in embarrassment, made Allen’s heart itch even more. He leaned in slowly, their lips just a breath apart until Riley abruptly pushed him away.
Her heart pounding wildly, Riley forced herself to calm down, though her voice was firm. Allen, if you’re only acting like this because of the baby, let me make it clear–I don’t need it!”
She took a deep breath and continued, “This baby is yours, yes, but I don’t need you to take responsibility. I chose to have this child, and it has nothing to do with you.
“I’ll raise it on my own. It doesn’t matter who the father is–even if it were some random guy from a bar–I wouldn’t give up on this baby. So don’t think I kept it because of you, and don’t worry, I won’t use this baby as an excuse to cling to you.”
“A random guy from a bar?” Allen’s frustration flared, his voice rising. “Riley, listen to me. It’s not just about taking responsibility for this child. I want to take responsibility for you!”
“What do you mean?” Riley’s heart skipped a beat again, her pulse racing out of control.
Did he mean what she thought he did?
She didn’t dare jump to conclusions. After all, for years, she’d made the mistake of overthinking things more than once.
“I mean exactly what I said,” Allen replied with mock exasperation. “You weren’t exactly the sharpest tool in the shed before, and now that you’re pregnant, you’re as clueless as ever.”
“Who are you calling clueless?” Riley glared at him, her brows knitting together.
“Well, let’s see. It’s just you and me here–who else could it be?” Allen teased, his hands reaching out to pinch her puffed–up cheeks. He even pushed her nose upward, laughing as he added, “There, now you really look the part!

Riley swatted his hand away in irritation.
Allen dodged quickly, raising his hands above his head to avoid her retaliation.
Riley wasn’t exactly short, but Allen’s impressive six–foot frame still gave him the advantage.
Riley jumped up, trying to smack his hand, but her footing slipped, and she nearly toppled
over.
Allen reacted instantly, pulling her into his arms to steady her. His voice softened as he murmured, “Careful, love.”
Riley froze. “What… what did you just call me?”
Allen gently pushed her back just enough for her to regain her balance. Once she was steady, he dropped to one knee in front of her.
From his pocket, he pulled out a small red velvet box and flipped it open to reveal a sparkling diamond ring.
