Chapter 0492
“Can you tell me more about the conflict between your sister and Helena?” Suzy asked, cutting to the heart of what she wanted to know
Evangeline didn’t strike her as the type to seize power by force.
“It’s not much of a story–just a misunderstanding, really,” Serena replied with a sigh.” Everything stemmed from that man. Helena suspected my sister had feelings for him and started seeing her as a threat. She made it her mission to make Evangeline’s life miserable and even looked for opportunities to eliminate her.
“But my sister would never do such a thing. She knew full well about the relationship ‘between Helena and that man. Why would she involve herself in something like that?”
“Then was Helena’s death your sister’s doing? Suzy pressed. “The person who hired me to kill your sister claimed she killed Helena.”
“Absolutely not!” Serena defended her sister without hesitation. “Evangeline has always been kind–hearted. She wouldn’t even hurt an ant, let alone commit such a heinous act. Helena’s death was an accident, nothing more.”
“But after Helena’s death, your sister took control of everything in Xandria,” Suzy pointed out. “That’s a hard thing to overlook if she’s claiming innocence.”
Serena pursed her lips, clearly troubled. “I understand how it might look. Yes, after Helena’s passing, Evangeline stepped in to assume power. It’s true that some people questioned it, but she only took the reins temporarily. There was no one else capable of leading the country. What was she supposed to do–let Xandria fall into chaos?”
“Why was there no one else?” Suzy asked, puzzled. “A royal family as large as yours surely isn’t short on heirs. Your nation still operates under a hereditary monarchy, doesn’t it? Didn’t Helena have children?”
“She did,” Serena admitted, “but they’re far too young. The eldest is only five, and the youngest is three. What could they possibly do?
“Even so, why would the role fall to Evangeline? From what you’ve said, she didn’t have much status within your family. If anything, you’d be a more logical choice. You’re her older sister. Shouldn’t you have taken the throne instead?”
“It doesn’t work like that,” Serena said with a soft laugh. “Yes, I’m older, but I lack the skills to govern a country. Compared to my sister, I’m completely unqualified.
“My sister is extraordinary. Over the past three years, under her leadership, our country’s economy has flourished year after year.”
Her tone was filled with admiration and pride, with not a trace of jealousy or resentment toward her sister. It was clear Serena held her sister in the highest regard.

Chapter 0492
Narrowing her eyes, Suzy asked, “The man you mentioned–does he still serve as the shadow guard commander?”
“No,” Serena replied with a shake of her head. After Helena’s death, he disappeared without a trace. No one knows where he went. It’s as if he vanished from the face of the earth. My sister has been searching for him for three years but hasn’t found a single lead.” “Three years, and there’s been no news at all?” Suzy mused, her suspicions growing. If what Serena said was true, the man’s disappearance was highly suspicious.
Especially considering he was the shadow guard commander, someone with access to the authority to mobilize the guards. If he was indeed involved, it would explain a lot.
‘And as for the masked woman causing them so much trouble? Perhaps she wasn’t a woman at all–just a guise that man had adopted to mislead everyone. It would certainly explain why they’d been chasing shadows for so long.
“Nothing,” Serena confirmed, her gaze settling on Suzy. She studied her for a moment as if seeing something new. “Now that I think about it, that man looked quite a bit like you. Especially the eyes–they’re almost identical.”
