Suzy paused for a moment and said, “That woman has been watching our every move from the shadows. Do you think it’s possible she swapped out the blood samples?”
“Unlikely,” Dylan replied. “If she did, why would she still be so adamant about keeping me out of this? If she’d already tampered with the samples, she wouldn’t need to worry about my involvement.”
“Maybe it’s all just part of an act,” Suzy countered, still skeptical. “If you could get your hands on Evangeline’s blood, then it’s not impossible that she could too.”
“So, you’re convinced there’s a blood connection between you and Evangeline?”
“Not exactly,” Suzy admitted. “But I can’t shake the feeling that the woman has a reason for forcing me to kill Evangeline. And on top of that, Evangeline looks so much like my mother–it’s hard to ignore.”
She let out a self–deprecating laugh. “Maybe I’m just overthinking it. As for whether that woman is actually Helena, I’ll have Allen discreetly investigate her grave. He’s skilled in disguise and has the tools to collect a sample without opening the coffin.”
Suzy had been hesitant to suggest it before, worried about alerting the enemy. But after weighing her options, this seemed like the quickest way to confirm or disprove their suspicions.
They couldn’t remain passive forever. And who knows? Maybe they were wrong, and the woman wasn’t Helena at all.
Verifying her identity was the first step–if it turned out to be true, it would explain a lot. If not, the situation would become even murkier.
To her surprise, Dylan said calmly, “I’ve already sent someone to investigate.”
Suzy was speechless.
She’d specifically told him not to act recklessly, but he never listened!
Though she felt a spark of frustration, Suzy didn’t press the issue.
Instead, she simply said, “Let me know when you get the results.”
As she prepared to hang up, Dylan’s voice stopped her. “Wait a moment.”
“What now?”
There was a brief silence on the other end before Dylan finally said, “Take care of yourself. Don’t push too hard.”

Suzy rolled her eyes.
After all that, he’d kept her on the line just to say that?
“Thank you for your concern, Mr. Wright, but I don’t need it. Considering we no longer have any ties, I’d suggest keeping unnecessary comments to yourself.”
With that, a sly gleam flashed in her eyes, and she ended the call before he could respond.
Setting her phone down, she smirked and muttered to herself, “Bastard–let’s see if that doesn’t drive you crazy!”
After ending the call, Suzy went over the entire situation in her mind again, piecing everything together carefully.
Pressing her lips into a thin line, she pulled up her mother’s records on her phone.
Both her mother’s background and Evangeline’s origins matched the previous investigations–there was nothing suspicious at all.
So, it was entirely possible that she really was overthinking things. The woman might have been forcing her to kill Evangeline for some other reason entirely.
But what could that reason be?
Could it be connected to that man from that night?
Was it possible that the woman knew about her connection to him and was using that knowledge to pressure her into killing Evangeline?
“It’s all Dylan’s fault. If he’d shown up just one minute later, Evangeline might have revealed everything about that man.”
If it weren’t for the complete mystery surrounding that man, she wouldn’t have had to resort to hypnotizing Evangeline in the first place.
Her thoughts spiraled for the rest of the night, keeping her awake until just before dawn when exhaustion finally claimed her.
She hadn’t been asleep for long when her phone’s sudden ringtone startled her awake. Seeing Dylan’s name on the screen, she immediately answered, assuming he had news.
“Is it Helena?”
