“I thought it was because I broke our promise to act like strangers when we meet again. But, Mr. Wright, I don’t think there was anything inappropriate in what I said. Surely you wouldn’t want people to know I’m your ex–wife–just like before when you didn’t want anyone to know I was your wife.”
Without giving him a chance to respond, Suzy continued, “I probably shouldn’t be associated with you, but having three years of work experience at the Wright residence makes for a solid reference. Besides, I wasn’t wrong; to you, I really was just a housekeeper. Remember? You said so yourself on our wedding night.”
Suzy would never forget that night. When he kicked her out of the bedroom, he said, “Suzy, even if you’ve claimed the position of Mrs. Wright, to me, you’re nothing but at housekeeper.”
Her reminder finally jogged Dylan’s memory of those very words he had spoken.
Three years ago, under the pressure of his grandmother threatening her own life, he had. been forced to marry Suzy, convinced that everything was part of her manipulations. His resentment toward her only grew, especially on their wedding night, when her eager attempts to please him further fueled his loathing, leading him to call her a housekeeper.
Shifting his gaze awkwardly, he changed the subject. “You care about this job a lot?”

Dylan’s emotions flared uncontrollably. “Answering that fast–what are you really so attached to? The job, or Claude himself?”
Suzy spread her hands. “Does it make any difference?”
“So, Claude is your next target?” Dylan seized her left wrist, pulling her close to his chest. ” No wonder you turned down the one million dollars!”
“Yes… Once I get close to Mr. Claude, I’ll be the lady of the Harlow family, and that one million dollars you offered? I won’t even give it a second glance!”
She looked at him defiantly. “Dylan, don’t forget, we’re already divorced. Whoever I’m involved with is none of your concern.”
The grip on her wrist tightened. “Is this the real reason you were so eager to get divorced?”
He had thought it was because of Allen, but apparently, it wasn’t.
“That’s right.”
“Fine, very well!” Dylan laughed bitterly in his anger. “What do you think would happen if Claude knew the truth…?”
“Dylan, don’t you think your behavior is strange right now?”
Suzy looked him up and down. “I’m only your ex–wife. Why do you care so much? Are you worried that if I really end up with Claude, it’ll be a disadvantage to you, or…”
She leaned closer, her red lips brushing his ear as she whispered, “Are you jealous?”
