“That idiot. Just because his legs are injured doesn’t mean his brain should stop working too,” Suzy thought.
While Suzy silently fumed, she overheard the servants downstairs whispering, “Why would such an important figure from Zentora visit our mistress so late at night? Could something have happened?”
This same question was soon posed by Evangeline herself as she greeted Dylan. “General Wright, what brings you here at this hour? Has something happened?”
Dylan’s expression remained perfectly composed as he replied in a formal tone, “I was handling some business in a neighboring country and happened to pass through your borders. It’s been years since we last met, so I thought I’d take the opportunity to visit you, Miss Ford.”
“What a shameless lie,” Suzy thought to herself, rolling her eyes.
Evangeline’s serious expression softened at his explanation. “How thoughtful of you, General Wright! It’s late, so why not stay here tonight? I’ll have someone prepare a room for you immediately.”
Dylan didn’t hesitate. “I appreciate your hospitality.”
After some polite exchanges, Evangeline had someone escort Dylan to his room.
It was as though he had anticipated Suzy’s next move. Despite having every opportunity to contact her, Dylan didn’t reach out.
Once Evangeline retired for the night, Suzy slipped into Dylan’s room. “Dylan, what are you playing at, showing up here in the middle of the night?”
“Funny,” Dylan said, his dark eyes fixed on her. “That’s exactly what I wanted to ask you. Why are you sneaking around alone?”
“Because I feel like it!” Suzy retorted irritably. “I’m not yours, I can do whatever I want, and it’s none of your business.”
“I was just worried about you.”
“Thanks for your concern!” Suzy snapped, her tone growing harsher. “But you should worry about yourself instead. You’re the leader of the Yellowtail Squadron, sneaking off to meet Xandria’s head of state in the dead of night. Aren’t you afraid of how that might be perceived?”

He pulled out a document he had prepared in advance. “This is an official visit authorization. Our country has strong diplomatic ties with Xandria, and I filed the necessary requests, with my superiors before coming here.”
“Alright,” Suzy muttered, feeling a little caught off guard.
She had assumed Dylan had shown up unprepared.
She had to admit, as the leader of the Yellowtail Squadron, Dylan certainly knew how to handle things properly.
As she processed this, Dylan added, “If you want to find out whether you and Evangeline share a blood connection, I can help you.”
“How?” Suzy asked with a faint smile. “You’re not seriously going to yank out her hair or draw her blood, are you?”
“Don’t worry about how I’ll do it,” Dylan replied, his dark eyes unreadable. “I promise I won’t let you down. Head back for now, and I’ll bring you what you need by tomorrow morning.”
Suzy studied him for a moment before nodding. “Alright.“–
She turned to leave, but as she moved too quickly, her footing slipped, and she stumbled, nearly falling to the ground.
Dylan, of course, couldn’t just stand by and watch her fall. He reached out and pulled her into his arms.
