The woman ended the call abruptly, and when Suzy tried calling back, the number was already disconnected.
Thinking about Riley, who was now in that woman’s hands, Suzy felt her heart clench. She immediately called Allen. “Riley’s been taken by her!”
“What?” Allen’s chest tightened at the news. “How does that woman even know about Riley?”
They had kept Riley away specifically to ensure her safety, hiding her in what they thought was a secure location.
“It seems she knows us far too well,” Allen said, his voice grim. “Do you think there’s another mole among us?”

Suzy, however, thought otherwise. “It’s more likely she’s been watching our every move for a long time, and we just didn’t notice.”
“What does she want?”
“She wants me to kill Evangeline.”
“Why?”
“I don’t know yet.‘
This wasn’t some spur–of–the–moment plan. That woman must have been plotting to use her against Evangeline for quite some time.
As the pieces started coming together, Suzy’s thoughts drifted back to that night with Dylan.
Could it have been part of that woman’s plan all along?
If so,
it meant she’d been watching them for at least three years.

Suzy’s mind returned to Evangeline. Why was she so adamant about using Suzy to her?

“What should we do, then?” Allen asked. “If we agree to her demands, we’ll be making enemies of all of Xandria. But if we refuse, Riley’s life could be in serious danger. We’ve already seen how ruthless that woman can be.
Allen was right–the woman was deliberately forcing Suzy into an impossible situation.
Frowning slightly, Suzy said to Allen, “Evangeline resembles my mother. At first, I thought it was just a coincidence, but her repeated attempts to push me make me suspect there’s some connection between Evangeline and me.
“I plan to visit Evangeline’s residence again to investigate. As for Riley, she should be safe for now. That woman hasn’t achieved her goal yet, so don’t worry too much.”
“Not worry? How could I not?” Allen thought.
If Riley’s health were the same as it used to be, he might feel a little more at ease. But now…
Thinking about Suzy’s comment about someone being “close to death,” Allen felt a sharp pang in his chest. “I just hope Riley’s body can handle it.”

“That night I called you at midnight. You told me she was close to death and asked if I knew about it!” Allen suddenly paused, realizing something. “Wait… you weren’t talking about her?“!
“Your comprehension skills deserve full marks, Suzy replied dryly.
“If it wasn’t Riley, then who?”
“Nadia Fletcher,” Suzy sighed. “She’s in the late stages of cancer and only has a few months left to live.”
“Nadia? I thought you meant Riley! I’ve been worried sick this whole time!” Allen let out a breath of relief.
“Allen,” Suzy said, narrowing her eyes slightly. “You seem different when it comes to Riley these days. Have your feelings changed?”
It wasn’t her place to meddle in their personal matters, but after all the hardships Riley had endured, Suzy couldn’t help but hope the two of them would figure things out sooner rather than later.
