Hearing Suzy’s “Darling” nearly made Dylan choke on the other end of the line.
He took several deep breaths before he managed to ease the ache in his chest. “It’s me.”
The moment Suzy heard Dylan’s voice, her brows furrowed. “Why are you calling me so late? What do you
want?”
As soon as she said it, Suzy remembered there was an eight–hour time difference between her home country and Xandria. It was actually afternoon back home.
On the other end, Dylan fell silent for a moment, her impatient tone making his breath hitch again. “You’re out of the country right now?”
He already knew the answer but couldn’t help finding an excuse to talk to her
“Yes,” Suzy replied bluntly. “I met a man who said his country is beautiful, so I came over to check it out. If I like it here, I might just settle down.”
She deliberately added that last part.
“Really?” Dylan’s voice carried a clear note of bitterness. “That’s… good.”
“Yeah. It’s not like there’s anything worth staying for back there. Might as well try a new environment,” Suzy said lightly, pausing before asking, “Why did you call? What’s the matter?”
“Nothing important. I’m almost out of medicine and wanted to ask if I should get it from you or Allen.”
“Ask Allen,” Suzy said without hesitation. “He’ll handle all your treatments from now on.”
“Alright.”
Dylan tightened his grip on his phone. “Have fun, then. I’ll hang up now.”
When the call ended, Suzy rolled her eyes at her screen. “Stupid man. Let’s see how long you can hold out.”
She glanced toward Evangeline’s room again. The man probably wasn’t coming out tonight.
Initially planning to leave, Suzy dialed Steven’s number instead. “Darling, I’m sorry. Something’s come up at home, and I need to head back immediately.”
She used “darling” on purpose, playing the part of someone utterly lovestruck, knowing it would stroke his ego.
“What happened? Do you need me to send a helicopter for you?”

“No, I’m already at the airport and about to board. Once I’ve taken care of things, I’ll come back to you.”
“Are you sure you’ll be alright on your own?”
“I’ll be fine. Don’t worry, I’ll be back soon.”
After a few reassurances, Steven finally relaxed and agreed to let her go on her own.
If he weren’t still useful, Suzy wouldn’t waste another second on him.
After ending the call, she returned to the servants‘ quarters. Once there, she disguised herself again and waited outside Evangeline’s door at dawn.
As expected, when the door finally opened, there was no sign of the man.
Of course. Why would he stay the night? That was why he had climbed the wall in the dead of night.
Still, Suzy couldn’t understand it. With Evangeline’s status, why would he willingly remain by her side without recognition or a title?
Determined to uncover the truth about the man, Suzy discreetly questioned more of the
staff.
However, none of them seemed to know anything about him. Some even said, “We don’t know what kind of man our mistress likes. It’s been years, and while other noblewomen have had multiple children by now, she hasn’t even married a husband.”
Suzy was speechless.
Didn’t Steven claim that Evangeline had many men?
So, was Steven lying to her?
After observing for a few days, Suzy could confirm that, aside from the man from the previous night, Evangeline truly had no one else in her life. If she did, how could she possibly spend her nights alone?
It was becoming clear that Steven had deceived her.
Which meant… he knew her true identity?
“Heh…”
So, everything he had told her before was a lie, a deliberate ploy to make her see Evangeline as an enemy?
