Steven looked especially pleased to hear that. “Come on, let me take you to my private estate.”
“I’d rather not. Staying at the hotel is fine,” Suzy declined deliberately.
“Why would you stay at a hotel when you’re on my turf?” Steven insisted, practically pushing Suzy into his car.
Steven’s private estate was a grand, purely western–style mansion spanning over a thousand square meters. It looked exceptionally impressive.
“Wow!” Suzy exclaimed in mock surprise. “You live alone in a house this big?”
“Do you like it?” Steven’s eyes sparkled with enthusiasm as he looked at her.
“I love it!” Suzy put on the guise of a woman who had never seen the world, tilting her head with curiosity. “Who exactly are you? How do you own such a big house?”
Steven revealed his identity. “I’m no one special, just an ordinary person. But my mother is a minister in the queen’s court.”
“A minister in the queen’s court?” Suzy’s eyes widened. “So, women are in charge here?”
“Exactly!” Steven chuckled. “Here, women have always been in power, and men hold very low status…”
Suzy interrupted him, “But along the way, I noticed people treated you with a lot of respect!
Steven admitted candidly, “That’s because I’m my mother’s only child. If she had other children, especially daughters, I’d be like any other man here–worth nothing.”
Suzy feigned sudden understanding. “Ah, I see!”
She then looked at him curiously again. “Since your mother is a minister in the queen’s court, you must know a lot about the royal family. Why don’t you tell me more? That way, I can avoid saying something inappropriate or offending someone when I’m out. That wouldn’t be good.”
Steven didn’t suspect a thing. “Sure, let me tell you about our current queen, Evangeline Ford. Don’t be fooled by her innocent appearance. Her methods are absolutely ruthless. She rose to power by murdering her mother and sister.
“Her father was nothing more than a slave, so she originally had no right to inherit the throne. But through her sheer cruelty, she climbed her way up from being a complete nobody to the queen she is today.”

Suzy lowered her brows slightly, masking the flicker of emotion in her eyes, and asked, “Is she the woman we saw on the big screen at the airport?”
“No!” Steven clarified. “That was our former queen, Helena Drakemore. In reality, Evangeline took over a long time ago. No one expected someone as unremarkable as her to assassinate Helena three years ago and conceal the entire affair from international organizations.
“Even now, many countries are unaware that our queen has been replaced. They still think Helena is on the throne!”
“Helena?” Suzy probed further, as the files didn’t contain much information on her. If she wanted to dig deeper, she’d have to get more out of Steven. “Was she better than Evangeline?”
Steven smirked. “How many royals are truly pure–hearted? But compared to Evangeline, Helena was much better. Let me tell you something in confidence. Three years ago, under the pretense of diplomacy, Evangeline visited your country. She became infatuated with a man and wanted to bring him back as a concubine.
“When the man refused, she reportedly sent someone to have him assassinated!”
So, the culprit wasn’t Helena–it was Evangeline?
