“Think whatever you want!” Suzy’s patience had worn thin. “Claude, I’ll give you three days to reconsider. You’d better tell me what I want to know, or else”
“There’s no need to wait three days,” Claude interrupted, his tone cutting. “I’ve already told you everything. Stop clinging to false hope, Every word I’ve said is true.”
His voice lowered, cold and calculated. “As for Dylan’s body, like I told you before, it was fed to the fish. A massive school of them. I even added a little something to his within five minutes, they picked him clean.”

Suzy clenched her fists tightly but said nothing. Turning on her heel, she left the apothecary, leaving Claude behind.
What Suzy didn’t know was how familiar Claude was with this place. After all, it was here, in this very apothecary, that he had killed her mentor with his own hands.
The reason?
It had happened on a day much like this one. Her mentor had unexpectedly run into Claude outside. Fearing the old man would say something he shouldn’t to Suzy, Claude had followed him back in secret.
Here, in the apothecary, the confrontation unfolded. Her mentor had demanded, “Suzy trusts you completely. Why would you betray that trust and deceive her?”
Claude had explained his reasons, but the old man’s response had been firm. “No matter the reason, you have no right to deceive her. You know better than anyone how much she
values you.
“Nothing hurts’more than being lied to by someone you care about. Have you even considered how devastated she’ll be if she ever finds out?”
“I know,” Claude had replied, dropping to his knees before the old man. “That’s why I’m begging you–please let me marry her. Help me make this right.”
“Someone like you wants to marry her?” The old man’s voice was sharp, his principles unshakable. “I don’t need Suzy’s partner to be powerful or extraordinary. I only need them to be loyal.
“The first rule is never to deceive her, no matter the reason. And you’ve already broken the most important one.”
Her mentor had been fiercely protective of Suzy, cherishing her as though she were his own flesh and blood. It wasn’t just care–it was love, deeply ingrained and unwavering.
He had never married in his lifetime, and Suzy was the child he had chosen at first glance.

And Suzy heard every word.
“So it was you,” she said, her voice ice–cold. “You’re the one who killed my mentor.
“And what if I did?” Claude no longer cared about hiding anything. “No matter who it is, if they stand in my way, I’ll kill them.”
Suzy stared at him, her heart twisting with anger and disbelief. “Claude, have you completely lost your mind? Are you that desperate to be with me?”
“Yes!” Claude’s voice was resolute, unwavering.
In an instant, Suzy pulled a knife and held it to her neck, her eyes blazing with determination. “Too bad. Even if it means dying, I’ll never be with you!”
