Not long after Suzy arrived at Hillside Villa, her phone rang. It was a call from Dylan.
Thinking he might be feeling unwell, she answered, “Are you not feeling okay?”
“No, it’s not that. I just wanted to ask if you got home safely.”
Suzy took a deep breath. “Dylan‘, unless it’s something about your health, it’s better not to make these kinds of calls.”
She felt her point was clear enough.
It wasn’t that she wanted to be harsh, but there was no going back for her and Dylan. It was better to cut off any misplaced hope before it could grow.
From the other end of the line came Dylan’s voice, tinged with a hint of grievance. ” Grandma and Diana were the ones who told me to call.”
Suzy froze for a moment. Then, after a brief silence, she said, “I have another call coming in. I’ll talk to you later.”
Without waiting for a reply, she ended the call.
Exhaling deeply, she stepped out of the car and headed into the house.
Back in her room, Suzy stood by the window, gazing in the direction of the Harlow estate. Memories of her past with Claude filled her mind.
He had treated her exceptionally well, as he always claimed he would. He’d been willing to give up everything for her. And even knowing his collusion with Charlotte, she found it hard to truly hate him.
“Goodbye, Claude,” she whispered.
With that, she turned away from the balcony and went to her study.
Sitting at her desk, she opened her laptop and began drafting the paperwork to liquidate the Harlow Corporation’s shares.
She had initially taken over the company because she believed it was Claude’s life’s work.
But now…
With both Julian and Matthew gone, there was no reason to hold on anymore.
Suzy decided to liquidate the Harlow Corporation’s shares, along with the assets under Charlotte’s name and certain properties of the Frost family. The funds would go toward compensating the families of the innocent servants and employees who lost their lives twenty years ago.
Though the compensation was two decades late, she hoped it wouldn’t feel too late for

With that decision, everything from the past could finally be put to rest. Now, her focus was on developing the antidote to cure Dylan’s poisoning.
Early the next morning, she assigned the task to Allen.
What she hadn’t expected was for him to suggest, “Let Riley come with me.”
Before Suzy could respond, he quickly added, “This is a big project, and handling it alone might get tricky. Raven has her hands full with her child, and Black Lion… well, he’s all brawn and no brain. He’s not suited for this kind of delicate work.
“I thought about it, and Riley’s the only one who could really help. Trust me, I wouldn’t suggest her if I had anyone else in mind.”
Having spent so much time with Allen, Suzy could easily tell his attitude toward Riley had changed. If he truly had feelings for her, she was more than happy to see it. “Alright.”
But when he didn’t leave immediately, Suzy raised an eyebrow. “Anything else?”
Allen coughed awkwardly. “Maybe you could call her first?”
“Why can’t you just call her yourself?”
“Well, this is your assignment for us. If you only tell me and not her, it might seem like you don’t value her as much. Girls are sensitive about these things. What if she overthinks it and it affects your relationship with her?”
Suzy could tell what he was up to–he wanted an excuse to spend time with Riley but didn’t quite know how to approach her. Fine. If he was that shy about it…
Suzy pulled out her phone and called Riley. “Riley, I have something I need you to work on with Allen. He’ll come by to discuss the details with you later.”
She kept the call brief and straightforward, hanging up as soon as she finished. Turning back to Allen, she asked, “Satisfied now?”
A broad grin spread across his face. “Don’t worry, I’ll make sure everything is handled perfectly!”
After Allen left, Suzy rolled her eyes. “Men–they’re all the same, aren’t they?”
She reflected on how quickly Allen’s attitude toward Riley had changed, and her thoughts wandered to Dylan. “Are all men like this? Completely blind when someone cares for them, only to shamelessly chase after them once that care is gone?”
