Grace felt a sense of unease at the sight of Suzy’s serious expression.

Realizing what was coming, Dylan grabbed her wrist. “Did you forget what I told you?”
Suzy shot him a glance before yanking her hand free, turning her focus back to Grace, ” Grandma, you can’t force something that isn’t meant to be. He and I… we were never on the same path.”
“Suzy…” Grace walked over and took her hand. “I know this stubborn boy has made a lot of mistakes and hurt you, but as his grandma, I have to ask… Please, would you consider giving him another chance?”
“Yes, Suzy,” Diana chimed in, tugging at Dylan’s sleeve and giving him a pointed look.” Brother, promise her you’ll change.”
“There’s no need.” Suzy didn’t give Dylan the chance to speak. “He won’t promise, and I don’t need him to. Grandma, Diana, I know you both care about me, and I’ve been lucky to have you in my life. But this marriage…”

He noticed that her resolve was absolute–there wasn’t the slightest hint of hesitation or regret in her gaze.
Grace and Diana could both see the finality in Suzy’s eyes.
“Suzy…” Diana stepped forward, grasping Suzy’s hand, her face full of desperation.” Please don’t do this. You’re scaring me.”
Suzy patted her hand gently. “Diana, I’m leaving Grandma in your care from now on.” Diana’s eyes immediately welled up with tears.

He stared at her for another two seconds before standing up and heading for the door. Suzy glanced back at Grace and Diana. “Grandma, Diana, take care of yourselves.”
“Suzy…” Diana started to go after her, but Grace held her back, shaking her head. She then turned to Suzy with a gentle smile. “Suzy, you take care of yourself too. And from today on, you are officially my granddaughter. The doors of this family will always be open to you.”
