The moment Suzy heard they had found Charlotte, she immediately commanded, “Bring her here!”
In no time, Avalon had her men escort the person over.
“Suzy, you little wretch! I can’t believe you actually found me so quickly…”
The woman started hurling insults the moment they met, her words as venomous as they could get.
Avalon, unable to stand it, slapped her hard across the face, drawing blood from the corner of her mouth. Yet, she continued to curse relentlessly.
“Avalon, who do you think you are? How dare you hit me! You’re nothing but a lackey! You have no right to lay a hand on me. If I don’t die today, I swear I’ll kill you!”
Slap! Slap!
Avalon landed two more sharp slaps, leaving her face red and swollen. Instead of quieting down, Charlotte grew even more hysterical. “Touch me again, and I’ll make sure you regret it!”
Gone was any trace of elegance. Charlotte–or so it seemed–now looked like a deranged
woman.
Suzy, who had remained silent all this time, finally stepped forward.
Grabbing the woman by the hair, she yanked her head up. “Had enough yet?”
The woman spat in her face. “Not even close! I regret not killing you sooner. I should’ve ended you a long time ago!”
Her words were filled with hatred, but her eyes betrayed something… off.
It only took Suzy a glance to notice the discrepancy. Without hesitation, she checked the skin on the woman’s neck and behind her ears. Finally, she found the seam of a human- skin mask at the back of her head.
In one swift motion, Suzy ripped it off, revealing a face that bore no resemblance to Charlotte’s.
Avalon froze momentarily before her expression turned to shock. “It’s not her!”
Suzy’s gaze darkened as she looked at the woman. “Where is Charlotte?”
The woman stared back in confusion. “I don’t know!”
“You don’t know, yet you’re impersonating her?” Avalon pressed a blade to the woman’s throat. “This is your last chance. Where is Charlotte? If you want to live, start talking!”

“I really don’t know!” The woman’s voice trembled. “Someone approached me and told me to pose as the woman you’re looking for. They said I’d get one million dollars once the job was done. Even the things I said earlier were what they told me to say. That’s all I know. I swear!”
From the panic and honesty in her expression, Suzy could tell she was telling the truth.
It was just as expected. Charlotte wouldn’t be found so easily; she had pulled off a classic ” smoke and mirrors” act.
Suzy’s phone buzzed. It was Riley, reporting something similar to Avalon’s account–a witness claimed to have seen Charlotte..
Not long after that call ended, Raven rang with nearly identical news.
Charlotte had clearly created multiple decoys to cover her tracks.
With so many distractions, finding her would be even more difficult.
“Charlotte, let’s see how long you can keep hiding,” Suzy muttered.
If she wanted to track Charlotte down, she needed to uncover the man working behind the
scenes.
Perhaps Mark knew something.
Arriving at the place where Mark and Tanya were being held, Suzy wasted no time, cutting straight to the point. “Mark, you betrayed your closest friend, hurt your own wife, and let down your grandfather, who trusted you.
“And for what? For Charlotte? A woman who doesn’t even care about you. To her, your life, as well as Tanya’s, means nothing. Do you really think a woman like that is worth sacrificing your entire life for?”
Before Mark could respond, Tanya jumped in, her tone sharp. “Exactly! You love her like crazy, and for what? To her, you’re nothing more than a pawn! If you weren’t useful to her, she wouldn’t even spare you a second glance. And yet, after all these years, you’re still hung up on her like some lovesick fool!”
Despite her turbulent personal life, Tanya’s moral compass was surprisingly steady. Aside from her complicated relationships, she had a grounded and pragmatic outlook on life.
