Victor glanced at Graham. “Are you seriously planning to call her? Let me warn you. She won’t come. Worse, she’ll probably think Dylan put you up to it and end up resenting him
even more.”
“That kind of woman isn’t worth it!” Graham had no patience for Suzy, “Cut the chatter and give me her number. Dylan’s hanging by a thread, and I need to give her a piece of my mind to blow off some steam.”
Victor mulled it over before giving a firm nod. “You’re right. We can’t just stand by and let Dylan be treated like a doormat.”
He pulled out his phone, found Suzy’s number, and was just about to read it aloud when Dylan emerged from the room. His bare torso was swathed in fresh bandages, though blood had already seeped through and spread across a few of them.
Seeing this, Graham rushed forward. “Who told you to get up? Do you want to die? Your injuries are serious enough. Do you have a death wish?”
Victor was just as frustrated. “You could’ve just called for us! Do you think we’re deaf? Just look how badly you’re wounded! You’re not invincible, Dylan!”
Dylan stood there silently, his gaze calm but firm as he addressed them. “Don’t call Suzy.”
Graham and Victor were speechless.
So, Dylan dragged himself out of bed just to stop them from calling Suzy?
Graham couldn’t believe what he was hearing. “Why not? Don’t tell me these injuries have nothing to do with her? Even if she’s not responsible, as your ex–wife, she should at least care about you getting hurt. On top of that, she’s a doctor! This call is happening.”
Dylan’s expression darkened. “These injuries have nothing to do with her.”
Victor snorted, clearly unconvinced. “Oh, really? If it wasn’t because of her, then who? The organization’s been quiet lately, and both Madam Grace and Diana are safe. Let’s be real- other than Suzy, there’s no one you’d risk your life for.
Victor shook his head, his frustration evident as his words tumbled out. “I can’t believe you, Dylan. She’s just one woman. Is she really worth all this? And not just any woman–a fiery, impossible.one at that!”
“Enough!” Dylan snapped, glaring at Victor with undisguised irritation. “She’s amazing. Better than anyone else. Don’t you dare say another word about her!”
His gaze swept between them, sharp and unwavering. “If anyone dares tell Suzy about my injuries, don’t expect me to keep calling you a friend.”

With that, Dylan pushed past them and returned to his room, leaving Victor and Graham exchanging bewildered glances. Both were grappling with the same question–what kind of spell had Suzy cast to make Dylan so utterly smitten?
Graham wasn’t ready to let it go though.
Catching up to Dylan, he steadied him with a hand on his arm and asked, “If you got hurt saving her, why don’t you want her to know?”
Victor’s earlier words echoed in his mind. If Suzy found out, maybe she’d finally come
around.
Dylan hesitated for a moment, then spoke, his voice low but steady. “I don’t want her thinking I saved her with an ulterior motive. I don’t want her pity, or for her feelings to shift out of guilt or gratitude. What I want is the Suzy who loved me with her whole heart.”
Two days later, Suzy was still at Hawk’s place.
It wasn’t because she didn’t want to leave–she dreamed of leaving–but Hawk hadn’t recovered from his injuries.
Despite using the best medicinal powders available, his wounds had worsened. Inflammation had set in on several of them, with no signs of recovery.
Suzy couldn’t help but suspect that Hawk was sabotaging his own recovery to keep her there. Yet when she examined his wounds, the only medication present was her own. There were no signs of tampering.
