If that were the case, any gratitude Suzy might have felt for him saving her life would vanish in an instant.
“Hawk, I’m warning you–think twice before doing something you’ll regret!”
Her tone was sharp, but Hawk didn’t seem to hear her, or he simply didn’t care. He shrugged off his jacket, followed by his T–shirt, leaving his upper body bare. Then, to her surprise, he leaned down toward her.
Just as Suzy braced herself, prepared to fight him off, Hawk suddenly turned, presenting his back to her.
What she saw made her breath hitch. His back was a crisscross of scars, some old and faded, others fresher and still healing. A few wounds looked particularly gruesome, though no longer bleeding.
“The wounds on my back are hard to reach,” Hawk said, his voice calm. “Can you help me with the medicine? I think I’ve earned at least that much.”
Suzy was speechless.
Alright, she couldn’t exactly refuse him now. After all, he had saved her life. Even if he hadn’t, she was a doctor, and ignoring injuries wasn’t in her nature.
As she examined the injuries, all doubts about Hawk being the masked man evaporated. No one else could have sustained such severe burns and scars from the explosion.

Victor looked up from his seat as Graham Ward emerged from the bedroom, his expression grim.
“How is he?”
Graham’s brows furrowed. “He’s in bad shape. His back is completely torn up–it’s a mess. What on earth was he doing to get himself injured this badly?”
Victor shook his head. “I have no idea, All I know is that he asked me to call you and have you come treat his injuries. Beyond that, I’m just as clueless as you.”
Graham frowned deeply. “I tried asking him earlier, but he wouldn’t say a word, no matter how much I pressed him.”

wife. Other than his grandmother and sister, she’s the only one in this world who could push him to such extremes.”
“Then why not go to her to treat him?” Graham asked, baffled. “From what I’ve heard, Suzy is a miracle doctor.”
Victor scoffed. “Who knows? Honestly, I don’t get half of Dylan’s decisions. If he really got these injuries for Suzy’s sake, why wouldn’t he use this as a chance to win her back? It’s the perfect opportunity, but he’s avoiding it completely.”
Victor paused, his expression shifting. “Unless she doesn’t care.”
The more he dwelled on it, the more it made sense. “Suzy’s the kind to sever ties without hesitation, just like Nadia. Even if Dylan got hurt for her–or worse, died–I doubt she’d so much as blink.”
Graham didn’t know much about Suzy. While he and Dylan were close friends, he’d spent most of the past few years abroad and only knew about Dylan and Suzy’s relationship through Victor’s heavily biased retellings.
Victor constantly painted Suzy in an unflattering light, often ranting about how Dylan was practically groveling to win her back while she remained indifferent.
The more Graham thought about it, the angrier he became. “Give me Suzy’s number.”
