“Charlotte, even without blood ties, my father was your brother by law!” Suzy couldn’t believe how twisted Charlotte’s thinking had become.
“Even if my mother hadn’t come into the picture, it would’ve been someone else. My father didn’t love you, and even if he did, it would’ve been impossible! A family like ours would never tolerate something so close to incest.”
“No, you’re wrong!” Charlotte’s voice rose, filled with hysteria.
“Your grandparents didn’t care about things like that!” Charlotte snapped, her voice sharp. “Your grandmother even said once that if I had been closer in age to your father, she would’ve gladly welcomed me as her daughter–in–law. They weren’t stuck in outdated traditions!
“Everything that happened was because of him. He turned his back on me and gave his heart to someone else!”
“You were never together. How could he abandon you?” Suzy couldn’t mask her disbelief. It was clear Charlotte’s grip on reality was severely fractured.
“Maybe we were never officially together, but he promised me!” Charlotte’s voice cracked with anguish. “He said I was the person he’d love most for his entire life. But the moment that woman appeared, he forgot all about me and that promise!”
Her face contorted with pain. “I loved him so much, but all he ever saw me as was a sister! I didn’t want to be his sister–I wanted to be his wife. I wanted to bear his children!”
Charlotte’s words dripped with delusion, her obsession reaching a fever pitch. Suzy realized there was no point in arguing further. Her aunt’s mind was too far gone.
“Charlotte,” Suzy said coldly, her voice steadier now, “you murdered my family and deceived me for years. Today, we’re settling this once and for all.”
It hurt more than Suzy wanted to admit.
For twenty years, she had believed Charlotte to be her one remaining sanctuary, the rock she could lean on when the world became too cruel. Whenever life got unbearable, the thought of having a family member left in the world had given her strength.
But now she knew the truth: Charlotte was the very monster she had been hunting all along. The one who had torn her family apart. The one who had nearly killed her multiple times.
The more Suzy thought about it, the deeper her hatred burned.
Suppressing the rage boiling in her chest, she locked eyes with Charlotte and asked, enunciating every word, “One last question. Why didn’t you kill me back then?”

Suzy saw the brief flicker in Charlotte’s eyes clearly, the flash of hesitation before her expression hardened again.
Charlotte sneered, her tone dripping with mockery. “Oh, nothing much–just enjoyed watching you run around in circles like a fool. I have to say, it’s been quite entertaining all these years. Especially seeing you trust me completely, time and time again!”
She laughed, a wild and unhinged sound. “Even recently, when you found out I’d deceived you, you still fell for my lies with just a few words from me.”
Her grin widened, her voice taunting. “You have no idea how much joy it brought me to see you scurry around like a little monkey, completely at my mercy.”
Suzy tried to hold back her tears, but they betrayed her, sliding down her cheeks unchecked. Her voice trembled as she asked, “So, all this time, there was never even a shred of family bond between us?”
Charlotte’s expression turned colder, her laugh sharp and cutting. “Do you even realize how ridiculous you sound? If I cared about you at all, would I have spent years trying to kill you at every opportunity?”
Her eyes darkened with malice. “Honestly, I’ve regretted sparing your miserable life for years. You should have died along with that wretched mother of yours. But it’s not too late. Now that you’ve conveniently walked right into my hands, I’ll make sure you join her in hell!”
As her words echoed, Charlotte reached into her pocket and pulled out a remote. The moment she pressed the activation button, the walls around them lit up, revealing rows of explosives.
“Last time, you got lucky,” Charlotte hissed, her eyes blazing with triumph. “But I refuse to believe you’ll escape death this time!”
