Suzy was on the verge of losing her temper.
It wasn’t that she didn’t want to take care of Grace, but…
Who was he to make decisions for her?
Had he really not noticed that things had changed? Did he still think he could call the shots like before as if everything he said was the final word?
“Suzy, you’re not saying anything… Does that mean you don’t want to?” Grace’s voice trembled as she held Suzy’s hand, looking utterly disappointed. “If you don’t want to, that’s fine. It’s just a twisted back, after all, I’m not going to die from it!”
With a heavy sigh, Grace added, “When you get old, you just become a burden.”
“I want to, of course I do!”
Even though Suzy knew Grace was putting on an act, she still couldn’t bear to see her upset.
“Really?” Grace’s face lit up immediately.
“Yes, I’ll stay and take care of you.”
Besides, Dylan hardly came over to visit, so staying with Grace wouldn’t be much of a problem. She could think of it as repaying Grace for her kindness over the past three years.
“That’s wonderful!” Diana cheered, practically bouncing with excitement. “With Suzy taking care of you, Grandma, you’ll recover in no time.”
Then she glanced at Dylan. “Brother, since Suzy is staying over, why don’t you move back to the family estate too? You’ve been so busy all these years, barely spending time with Grandma. Now’s the perfect chance to make up for it.”
Suzy was speechless.
Grace let out a dismissive hum. “Forget about him! I barely exist in his eyes. His time is all tied up with people he shouldn’t be spending it on.”
Picking up on the hint, Diana pulled Dylan aside and lowered her voice. “Brother, Grandma is really getting old. Even though she’s been staying at the retreat, I don’t think her health is getting any better. If she were fine, she wouldn’t have almost fallen down the stairs today.
“Grandpa passed away early, and Grandma had to raise Dad all by herself, watch him get
married, and have kids. She thought she’d finally get to enjoy her golden years, but then…”
Diana wiped away imaginary tears. “She lost her husband young, and then her son.
Grandma’s been through so much. It’s obvious how much she cares for Suzy. So, I beg you, even if you’re just pretending, please act like you’re happily married. Don’t upset her more than you already have.”
Dylan was speechless
Just like that, Suzy and Dylan both ended up staying at the estate.
After dinner, Grace wasted no time in urging them back to their room. “It’s getting late, you two should head to bed.”
“Yes, yes! Brother, Suzy, hurry up and get some rest!” Diana chimed in without missing a beat. “This could be your chance to have a baby!”
Sury could see it now–the two of them were definitely in on this together.
She shot Dylan a look, hoping he’d say something, but to her surprise, he simply stood up from the couch. “Let’s go.”
Suzy was speechless.
With Grace and Diana both watching them closely, Suzy had no choice but to swallow her frustration and follow him upstairs.
As soon as they were in the room, she asked, “Mr. Wright, you’ve gone a whole day without seeing Anne. Don’t you miss her?”
He could’ve easily found an excuse to leave earlier, but he said nothing.
Dylan ignored her, grabbed a change of clothes, and headed straight into the bathroom.
Moments later, the sound of running water filled the room.
In the three years they’d been married, this was the first time they were ever alone in the
same room.
“Heh.”
Every time they’d visited the family estate before, he never wanted to stay over, but now things seemed different.
Was it really because Grace was getting old, or was there something else?
Realizing her thoughts were drifting in the wrong direction, Suzy quickly shook her head, trying to push away the ideas she knew she shouldn’t be entertaining.
