Charlotte’s expression froze momentarily but returned to calm in a second. Her face filled. with confusion as she looked at Suzy. “What are you talking about? When have I ever deceived you?”
“You tell me,” Suzy said, her voice trembling.
She couldn’t believe the one person she trusted, her only family, had been lying to her. When did it start? Recently, or was it from the very beginning?”
The thought that Charlotte might have been deceiving her from the start made Suzy’s chest tighten with unbearable pain.
