Suzy mimicked him with a sly smile. “So, Mr. Wright, have I finally caught your attention?”

With a deliberate motion, she wrapped her arms around Dylan’s neck. “Why don’t we share this good news with Miss Wheeler? I’m sure she’ll be thrilled for me.”

His expression darkened instantly, and a flash of mockery flickered in Suzy’s eyes.
Just as expected–Anne was his untouchable weak spot.
“What’s that supposed to mean, Mr. Wright?” Suzy shrugged casually. “Oh, right. You think I was behind that kidnapping, don’t you?”
“Not just the kidnapping, but the poisoning too.”
His grip on her chin tightened.
“Suzy, you’ve gotten awfully bold.”
Suzy fell silent.

So that was why he had been hunting her down.
It wasn’t because Grace was returning or for any other reason–he thought she was the one who poisoned Anne?
“No matter what happens to Anne, your first suspect is always me, isn’t it?”
Dylan’s gaze darkened. “No one else would dare touch her, and no one hates her enough to see her as a threat, except you.”
A sharp pain stabbed through Suzy’s chest as if someone had driven a knife straight into her heart.

Dylan hadn’t expected her to confess so easily.
“Yes, I admit it.” Suzy stared straight into his eyes which were filled with nothing but contempt for her.
“So, Mr. Wright, how do you plan to deal with me?”
Her deffant attitude only fueled Dylan’s frustration. “Suzy, don’t think that just because Grandma is on your side, I won’t do anything to you!”
Suzy withdrew her hand from around his neck. “Of course you dare. There’s nothing Dylan Wright isn’t capable of. For the past three years, Grandma told you to treat me well, but you never listened. Why would you be afraid of her now?”
“So, you took all your resentment toward me and unleashed it on Anne?”
“Yes, that’s exactly what I did,” Suzy said, pushing him away. “So, you’d better stay far away from me. Who knows what I might do to her the next time I’m upset?”
She headed for the door, but before stepping out, she extended her hand. “Divorce papers.
“Suzy, don’t push it.”
She let out a soft laugh. “Push it? I’m not interested in playing games with you. And even if I were, you wouldn’t be the one I’d choose.
“After today, if we run into each other on the street, I expect you to act like you don’t know me, just like you always have. And I’ll do the same. You go on being the famous Mr. Wright, and I’ll fade into the background. From now on, we’re strangers.”
Her gaze was nothing like before.
In the past, when she looked at him, her eyes had always sparkled with light and warmth.
Now, they were filled with nothing but cold indifference.
And not only had her gaze changed, but her tone as well.
She no longer called him by the familiar name “Dylan“-now, he was simply “Mr. Wright.”
Was this another tactic?
Or had she finally grown tired of pretending for three years with nothing to show for it?
