Since they were all so eager for her attendance, Suzy decided to grant their wish.
With that, she hung up the phone again and, for good measure, unplugged the line entirely.
On the other end, Dylan stared at the disconnected call and let out a bitter laugh. “You’re losing all patience with me, aren’t you?”
All he’d wanted was to explain why he was marrying Anne, but she hadn’t even let him finish a single sentence.
Then again, even if he had managed to explain, would she have believed him?
Probably not.
Letting out a resigned sigh, he called for Desmond. “Any leads on the person backing Anne?
Ever since Anne had revealed her supposed leverage, Dylan had begun digging into the mysterious figure behind her.
“Nothing so far,” Desmond replied, puzzled. “Since we picked her up from prison, she’s barely left the villa. The only exception was that night she went to Bayview Heights and nothing since.
“Surveillance also shows no one visiting her at the villa. Honestly, if it weren’t for the complexity of her last scheme, I’d have believed she made up this so–called backer.”
Dylan’s expression darkened slightly at the thought. “What about Charlotte? Any updates. there?”
He still found it hard to believe that her and Anne’s recent appearances were mere coincidence.
Desmond shook his head. “The investigation shows no connection between her and Anne. She’s Suzy’s aunt and seems to genuinely care for her. It’s more likely Anne was
monitoring your movements and used Charlotte’s call to the reporters as an opportunity to stir the pot.
Dylan remained silent for a long moment before finally speaking again. “Even so, keep a close watch on her. I don’t want any loose ends. ”
Still, he hoped he was just overthinking it.

Dylan wasn’t the only one who suspected some unsavory connection between Anne and Charlotte. Even Grace had her doubts. Before leaving earlier, she had taken a moment to warn Suzy.

“Suzy, don’t put too much trust in anyone, no matter who it is.
Suzy understood exactly what Grace was implying. After hanging up on Dylan, she found herself lost in thought, replaying the recent events in her mind.
The events of that day did seem suspicious, almost as if Anne and Charlotte had been working together. Or perhaps someone was deliberately trying to drive a wedge between them.
As Suzy was lost in her thoughts, Charlotte stormed in, her face flushed with anger.
Seeing her, Suzy quickly adjusted her mood and smiled. “Who dared to upset my beautiful and elegant aunt?”
“Who else? Of course, it’s that Anne!” Charlotte slammed a stack of documents onto Suzy’s desk, her frustration evident. “I knew it wasn’t a coincidence that Anne showed up at just the right moment that day. Turns out, several of the reporters I called were already on her payroll!
“She’s been keeping tabs on me this whole time, watching my every move!”
Suzy glanced at the folder Charlotte had thrown down but didn’t bother opening it. “Even so, is it worth getting this worked up over?”
“How can I not be angry?” Charlotte’s face was flushed red with rage. “Do you really think she has the ability to pull this off without Dylan’s help?”
At that, Charlotte abruptly fell silent. Her expression shifted to something far more serious, her tone dropping to a grave whisper.
“Suzy, have you ever considered… that the mastermind behind the fire might have been Dylan all along?”
