She still didn’t know who the man really was, but somehow, he’d uncovered that the incident was indeed connected to Lisa.
Even so, Suzy wasn’t entirely convinced by the results of his investigation.
For all she knew, he could be the one with an ulterior motive.
His sudden appearance in the fire had already been suspicious enough, and now, just when she was hitting a dead end, he conveniently delivered such a critical lead.
So, even after reading it, Suzy didn’t take it seriously and tossed it right back into the trash.
For several nights, in a row, the man came back.
First, it was cake, then tea–he was beginning to seem more like a food delivery guy than anything else.
She never ate or drank what he brought, yet he kept showing up anyway.
He never stayed too long and always left when Suzy truly lost her temper.
At first, she didn’t think much of it. But after it happened a few more times, something clicked–he seemed a little afraid of her.
Yes, afraid.
Afraid she’d get genuinely angry.
If he really had bad intentions, would he act like this?
So, who was he? And why was he so… strange?
She had to admit, the man was an expert at getting under her skin. The more he came around, the more curious she became about his identity.
There were moments when she came close to catching him off guard and tearing off his mask.
Thankfully, she always stopped herself at the last moment, remembering his warning. It wasn’t fear holding her back–it was the desire to avoid unnecessary entanglement. What if he actually did cling to her for life? She couldn’t imagine anything more irritating. It was better to keep him out of sight, out of mind.
Determined to keep him from bothering her again, Suzy upgraded her security system.
As the night dragged on and the man still didn’t show up, Suzy finally felt a sense of relief lifting from her chest. “Finally, some peace and quiet!”
Meanwhile, Allen had made progress in the investigation.
It turned out Lisa wasn’t involved after all–the problem still lay with the servers.
They had even identified a suspect.
When Allen offered to handle it, Suzy stopped him. “I’ll deal with it myself.‘
The suspect was a server who frequented a local bar. When Suzy arrived, the man, in his early twenties, was partying hard, a woman draped over his arm and a drink in his hand.
Without a word, Suzy grabbed a beer bottle from the table and smashed it against the back of his head.
“What the hell? Who-”
The server jumped up, cursing, but when he turned and saw Suzy, his attitude shifted instantly. “Ms. Frost! What a surprise! What brings you here?”
Suzy’s eyes narrowed dangerously. “Why shouldn’t I be here? Or is it because, in your mind, I should already be dead?”
“Wh–what? Of course not!” The server nearly dropped to his knees in fear. “Ms. Frost, I’m just terrible at expressing myself. If I’ve offended you in any way, please forgive me. I swear I didn’t mean it!”
Suzy let out a cold laugh. “That depends on how cooperative you are.
She ordered everyone who didn’t belong there to leave, then sat down on the plush sofa of the VIP booth. “Who gave you the drugs?”
“Drugs?” The server’s eyes darted nervously. “What drugs?”
Suzy immediately spotted his unease. “Keep playing dumb.”
Realizing he’d been caught, the server dropped to his knees, trembling. “Ms. Frost, I swear it was just for fun! I only took the drugs to get a thrill. I’ll never do it again, I promise!”
Suzy stared at him, thoroughly unimpressed. “What nonsense is he even talking about?”
Not wanting to waste more time, Suzy used hypnosis on him.
The result? He had nothing to do with it.
Unwilling to accept such a dead
to arrive at the same conclusion, she tried several different methods of hypnosis, only
each time.
It wasn’t him. She’d wasted her time.
Could it really have been Lisa?
Suzy refused to believe it. She’d rather assume the masked man was deliberately sowing
