Suzy shot him a glance, her expression indifferent. Without saying a word, she raised her hand to hail a taxi.
As soon as she got in and was about to tell the driver to drive, the door suddenly swung open. The man leaned in, interrupting her. “Move over.”
“This is the cab I called!” Suzy was growing more convinced–this man had to be Hawk. His every move reeked of the same shamelessness!
Ignoring her protests, he reached in with his arms, effortlessly scooping her up and shifting her further into the seat.
“Are you out of your mind?” Suzy snapped, completely exasperated.
Despite lier anger, his tone remained smooth and warm. “It’s late, and it’s not safe for you to be out alone–especially when you’re still injured.”
“That has nothing to do with you!”
“It has everything to do with me,” he countered, his voice calm. “If you’re hurt, it pains me

From the front seat, the driver chimed in with a laugh, “Young lady, your boyfriend sure treats you well.”
Suzy snorted. “You’ve got it wrong, sir. He’s not my boyfriend. Have you ever seen a boyfriend wear a mask in front of his girlfriend?”
The driver, clearly intrigued, seized the chance to satisfy his curiosity. “Young man, I was just wondering–why are you wearing a mask this late at night?”
When he’d first seen the man from a distance, the driver had assumed he was up to no good. A masked man following a pretty girl this late at night? It wasn’t hard to imagine something sinister. But after hearing their conversation, he realized he’d misunderstood.
The man’s doting attitude toward Suzy was unmistakable–he wasn’t a kidnapper. He was absolutely her boyfriend. And from the way Suzy denied it, the driver figured the guy must have done something to upset her, and the two were in the middle of a spat.
Suzy, irritated by the driver’s nosiness, was about to reply, “Because he’s a lunatic!”
But before she could open her mouth, the man beat her to it. “Because she likes it.”
The driver’s face lit up with understanding. “Oh, I see! That makes sense now. I was wondering why someone would dress like that. Turns out it’s because your girlfriend likes

Forget it. Explaining anything to either the man or the driver was pointless – a complete waste of time.
Suzy instructed the driver to take her directly to Harlow Corporation.

Behind her, the man stood silently, watching her surrounded by an almost palpable aura of hatred. Beneath his mask, his eyes softened with an unspoken pain.
Taking a step forward, he moved to her side and said in a low, steady voice, “I’ll help you find the one responsible for the fire.”
Suzy turned to look at him, her gaze lingering for a long moment before she finally parted her lips. “No need.”
“What’s the matter?” he teased lightly. “Afraid I’ll ask for your hand in return again?”
She didn’t bother to question why he wanted to help her, nor did she offer any explanation. Instead, she turned her eyes back to the disfigured building, her voice cold and resolute.
“I’ll settle my own score.”
Every debt would be accounted for, and she would personally see to it.
