Chapter 0217
On the surface, Suzy appeared calm and collected, but behind the scenes, she was making meticulous preparations.
With the Harlow Corporation’s new project about to launch, her workload was already overwhelming. On top of that, she had to track the movements of her enemies, leaving her swamped.
To make matters worse, Hawk kept showing up uninvited.
And there he was again, bright and early in the morning.
What frustrated Suzy the most was her inability to figure out how to deal with him. Unlike Dylan, Hawk was utterly shameless.
Thinking of Dylan…
Since that night, he hadn’t shown up again.
Maybe he had grown tired of pretending after failing to get what he wanted.
However, one thing puzzled Suzy–he hadn’t followed up on the lead Gray Wolf might have given him.
That night, she had assumed he’d let them go deliberately to investigate her in secret. But days had passed without so much as a ripple of activity.
“Hey, what are you thinking about?”
Hawk’s voice snapped her out of her thoughts. Suzy shot him an irritated look. “Do you really have nothing better to do?”
“Of course not,” Hawk replied with a grin. “I’m busy every single day.”
Then, with a playful gesture, he formed a heart with his hands. “Busy trying to make you smile.”
Suzy was left speechless.
How disgusting.
Taking a deep breath, Suzy retorted, “Trying to win me over, are you?”
Hawk raised a brow. “So, you’re finally feeling my love for you, Junior?”
“Not even close. I’m just noticing that your visits have become so frequent that my dislike for you has actually increased. Maybe you should try disappearing from my sight.”
Suzy smirked. “They say absence makes the heart grow fonder. Who knows? Not seeing you might actually make me feel less nauseous.”

“Really?”
“Really.”
“Alright, I’ll give it a shot.”
To Suzy’s surprise, Hawk walked out of her office without another word.
Suzy blinked.
He really left just like that?
For the next several days, Hawk didn’t show up at all. For the first time in a long while, Suzy finally got the peace and quiet she had been craving.
Suzy wasn’t naive enough to think Hawk’s sudden disappearance was because of her
words.
She’d told him to get lost countless times before, and he’d always stuck around, shameless as ever. There had to be another reason for his absence this time.
When she sent someone to follow him, the report came back, “He went to pay respects to the late mentor.”
Only then did Suzy remember–it was their mentor’s death anniversary.
Technically, she should go as well. But knowing Hawk would be there, she decided against it. With his thick skin, he’d probably assume she came just to see him. Better to wait a little longer and visit another time.
Still, she wasn’t about to leave him free to pester her again once he returned. To keep him occupied, Suzy decided to find a way to stall him.
Just as she was planning, Avalon unexpectedly volunteered. “I’ll go.”
“You?” Suzy blinked, surprised.
Avalon rarely got involved in anything unless absolutely necessary.
Avalon nodded. “It happens to be my brother’s death anniversary too.”
Hearing this, Suzy thought of Avalon’s brother,
Unlike Allen, Riley, and Raven, who had been rescued by her, Avalon and her brother had been saved by their mentor during a remote wilderness expedition.
The siblings had endured a tragic past. After being abducted and sold to multiple buyers, they suffered horrific abuse until Avalon’s brother managed to help her escape.
His sacrifice had cost him his life.
Avalon, who had always been quiet by nature, grew even more withdrawn after losing him.
