Not only was Claude alive, but he stood before Dylan on perfectly functioning legs, holding Suzy close in a way that spoke of deep familiarity.
So, he wasn’t dead after all.
If this man wasn’t truly Claude, Suzy would never let him touch her so casually. It could only mean one thing: the whole thing had been an elaborate ruse. They’d played him from the beginning.
The thought brought not only a surge of anger but a deep sense of hurt. For Suzy to go so far as to conspire with Claude… it meant Claude held an irreplaceable place in her heart.
Dylan’s expression, a mixture of anger and sadness, didn’t go unnoticed by Suzy and Hawk. Suzy didn’t acknowledge him, not even sparing a glance in his direction. Pushing Hawk aside, she picked up a file and headed toward the conference room. There was an important meeting to attend, and Hawk had already wasted enough of her time.
As she reached the door, she paused just long enough to look at Dylan, her face expressionless.
“Excuse me,” she said simply, expecting him to move.
No matter the situation, she believed in maintaining basic courtesy–it was a matter of principle.
But Dylan stood his ground. “Why did you lie to me?”
He needed an explanation, a reason for why she and Claude had deceived him so thoroughly.
Though his question seemed abrupt, Suzy instantly understood his meaning. She didn’t bother to explain; instead, she replied with thinly veiled irritation, “Why? Because I felt like it. Why else would I need?”
“Suzy!” Dylan’s voice was a low growl, her name slipping through clenched teeth. “Is toying with me really so satisfying?”
“Absolutely,” she replied with a cold smile, raising an eyebrow. “Seeing you strung along, clueless and helpless, gave me more joy than you could imagine.”
“You-”
Just then, Hawk stepped forward, seizing the moment. “Mr. Wright, I think you misunderstand. I’m not Claude Harlow. Though I look just like him, I’m not him,” he said, glancing at Suzy with a gleam in his eye before adding, “I’m Suzy’s boyfriend.”
This was all part of Hawk’s plan. He’d had Dylan watched and knew he was coming to see

Suzy, so he made sure Dylan would catch this scene.
Suzy was left speechless.
Who gave him the right to declare that?
Dylan fell silent.
He studied the man in front of him more closely. The resemblance to Claude was uncanny, yet upon closer inspection, there were subtle differences. This man was bold and arrogant -the complete opposite of Claude’s composed, gentlemanly demeanor.
So, had Suzy picked this man because she couldn’t let go of Claude?
The thought only twisted the knife deeper.
“Is what he’s saying true?” Dylan asked, looking at Suzy, his voice tight.
“Why would it matter to you?” Suzy’s gaze was cold.
Thinking back to Anne’s words, she couldn’t help but feel repulsed by him. “Who do you think you are?”
Dylan’s eyes flashed with possessiveness. “I’m your husband!”
Suzy let out a loud, mocking laugh. “Ex–husband! Take a good look–I’m not Anne Wheeler.”
At the mention of Anne, Dylan’s mind snapped back to his original purpose for coming.” Suzy, between Anne and me-”
Before he could finish, Hawk cut him off. “Don’t you have a meeting to attend to, Suzy? Everyone’s waiting. I’ll handle Mr. Wright here for you.”
With that, Hawk threw an arm around Dylan’s shoulder and steered him aside.
Suzy shot a quick glance at Hawk, then turned and left the office without another word.
Watching her walk away, Dylan’s expression grew darker. He shrugged off Hawk’s arm with an air of authority. “Stay away from her.”
Hawk blinked, feigning surprise. “I’m her boyfriend–why would I stay away? Besides, you have no idea; she can’t go a day without me!”
