Seeing him about to speak again, Suzy pulled her hand free from his grip and held up a ‘ pause‘ gesture. “If you want that dressing changed, keep quiet!”
With that, she pointed to the sofa in the center of the room. “Go sit over there.” Understanding her current mood all too well, Dylan said nothing further and moved over to the sofa as directed. Suzy retrieved the medical kit and began removing the stitches from behind him.
The moment she unwrapped the bandages and saw the infected wound, her brow furrowed deeply. “What on earth have you been doing the past few days?”
It was a natural question from a healthcare professional, one she would have asked anyone with a wound in that state.
“Nothing at all,” Dylan replied, his gaze flickering slightly. As he spoke, he turned his head to stare intently at Suzy’s stunning profile.
Appearance had never been a priority for him. He valued character and principles far more. But Suzy’s beauty had struck him instantly the first time they’d met, three years ago.
Later, due to misunderstandings, he’d made a conscious effort to ignore it, yet now he couldn’t bring himself to look away.
Suzy, entirely focused on the wound, hadn’t noticed the shift in his gaze. Seeing his denial, she said with a hint of irritation, “If you’ve done nothing, there’s no way the wound would be this badly infected!”
Dylan quickly responded, “Are you worried about me?”
“Yes, I’m worried about when you’re finally going to kick the bucket,” she shot back. Even in this condition, he still found time to be infuriating. Did he not realize that an infection like this could easily lead to tetanus–and tetanus could be fatal?
It wasn’t that she cared about him personally; his wellbeing mattered because it affected Grace and Diana. If something happened to him, they would be devastated.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t care if his wound was just inflamed or even if he were at death’s door.
Retrieving the necessary tools, she drained the infection, disinfected the area, and re- bandaged the wound. Throughout the entire process, Dylan’s eyes never once strayed from her face.

Just as he parted his lips to speak, Suzy cut him off. “You’re all set. You can leave now.”
The words he’d been about to say shifted. “The wound still hurts. I could use more of Dr. Frost’s care.”
Suzy paused in packing up, a calculating glint flashing in her eyes. “The treatment just now was for Grace and Diana’s sake. Any further treatment won’t be free.”
Dylan pulled out a black card and held it out to her. “No limit. Spend as you like, Dr. Frost.” She gave a soft laugh, taking the card and slipping it back into his shirt pocket. “Money isn’t what I’m after. I just want the truth from you, Mr. Wright.”
Her gaze fixed on his as she repeated her question. “What exactly is your relationship with Mark Goodwin?”
