Setting him facedown on the bed, Suzy prepared for a makeshift procedure. The only supplies available were a few medications she’d brought along for Diana’s scar treatment -nothing for pain relief or anesthesia.
Just as before, he’d have to tough it out.
To his credit, Dylan didn’t make a sound, though beads of sweat steadily formed and fell from his brow, betraying the pain he endured.
If not for those, she might’ve thought he didn’t feel pain at all.
Once the severed blood vessel was repaired and his shoulder re–bandaged, she began clearing up. But just as she turned, the world spun, and suddenly he had her pinned beneath him.
“What, are you getting tired of living?” Her tone was icy, though she stayed calmer than usual.
“Quiet,” he muttered, his voice low and strained.
If he hadn’t sounded so utterly drained, she’d have been tempted to reopen that wound herself.
But then she noticed his eyes were closed.
“Dylan…” She nudged his shoulder gently, calling his name twice, with no response.
Did he fall asleep from exhaustion or had the pain finally overwhelmed him?
Regardless, they couldn’t stay in that position.
Suzy placed her hands on his shoulders, attempting to shift him off.
Yet no matter how much effort she put in, he remained immovable, as solid as a mountain. Any other woman might’ve given up, but not Suzy–she was far from sentimental.
She had no intention of tolerating this.
In a flash, she retrieved a silver needle and pressed it firmly into a point on his neck. His eyes snapped open instantly, met by her cold stare.
“Whatever’s going on, tired or not, you need to get off me. Right now.”
“Woman, I’m injured,” he replied, his tone almost indignant. “You wouldn’t treat just patient this heartlessly, would you?”

She scoffed, a smirk forming. “Oh, so just because you’re hurt, you think that entitles you to act like a bastard?”

“I was just low on strength…” Dylan said, calmas ever, his tone entirely unruffled “But since you’re convinced otherwise, I might as well live up to the accusation. Wouldn’t want that needle to go to waste.”
