Just as the sharp tip of her needle was about to pierce Hawk’s left eye, her wrist was suddenly seized–by Hawk himself.
“You’re unharmed?” she murmured, taken aback by his complete lack of any symptoms. So, he’d been pretending all along?
Hawk’s lips curved into a sly smirk. “Junior, I may not be as skilled as you in poison- making, but I’m not as clueless as you think.”
His gaze shifted, taking on the cunning gleam of a fox. “To borrow your words, we’ve been fellow apprentices for years. Though we haven’t worked together much, I know you well enough. Knowing your personality, even if I hadn’t harmed Diana, you’d never invite me for a friendly meal.”
“Since you’ve figured out it’s a trap, have you also figured out that I’ve come to claim your life?” Suzy pulled her hand from his grip and, in one swift move, pressed down on his shoulder, forcing him down onto the table.
Against anyone else, this move would have been final. But Hawk was different.
He’d trained alongside Suzy from a young age and knew her weaknesses well. With a quick shift in his gaze, he struck at her underarm.
Suzy dodged immediately, realizing he was aware of her Achilles‘ heel. Only two people knew of her vulnerable spot under her arm: her mentor and Claude.
Thinking back to her mentor, Suzy felt a surge of bitterness. He’d claimed to care for her the most but in the end? He’d told Hawk about her weak spot, while Hawk’s own vulnerabilities had never been revealed to her.
It was pure favoritism, plain and simple.
Suppressing her frustration, Suzy launched her second attack without hesitation. This time, she hurled the poisoned needle straight at him.
At that moment, she truly intended to kill him.
There was hardly any bond left between them, and with what Hawk had done to Diana, Suzy felt no need to hold back.
“You’re really serious?” A flicker of disappointment passed through Hawk’s eyes. “I’m still your senior, after all. Don’t you feel even a bit of hesitation?”
