“Oh!” Suzy interrupted abruptly, clutching her stomach in exaggerated discomfort. “I think I have a sudden stomachache. I need to… step out for a minute.”
Before Diana could react, Suzy hurriedly made her escape from the room.
Diana frowned in frustration, directing all her irritation at Dylan. “Are you seriously going to let her leave without chasing after her? Or do you expect me, barely out of a coma, to do all the work for you?”
Diana had seen through Dylan’s tactics. She knew exactly what he’d been up to, purposely using her as a buffer because he couldn’t bring himself to say anything directly. Did he really think she couldn’t see through him?
Dylan cast her a glance, then headed out after Suzy.
Suzy made her way quickly down the hall toward the elevator. She had just stepped inside and was reaching to close the doors when Dylan entered. His presence shrank the once spacious elevator, especially with how close he stood.
Suzy didn’t appreciate the subtle pressure he exerted, but she chose to say nothing. It was a public space, after all, and aside from standing a bit too near, he hadn’t said or done. anything inappropriate. Speaking up might only stir up unnecessary trouble.
They rode down to the underground parking lot in silence, neither saying a word.
Oddly enough, Dylan remained close behind as she exited the elevator.
Was he leaving, too?
Recalling Hawk, Suzy decided it might be wise to give him some advice. “Diana just woke up and shouldn’t be left alone. You should personally stay with her.”

“Then…” Dylan’s hand shot out, grabbing hers firmly. “Let’s go.”
“Go where?” Suzy tried to pull her hand back, but his grip was strong, unyielding. “Dylan, do you even understand what remarriage means? Are you really willing to stake your future just to make your sister happy?”
“As long as it makes her happy, why not?” He met her gaze, his expression more serious than she’d ever seen. “Suzy, words once spoken always count, no matter the timing.”
Suzy stared into his dark, unfathomable eyes, a thought flickering in her mind.
“Dylan, you wouldn’t happen to be in love with me, would you? Is that why you’re taking this chance to push for remarriage?”
