Harlow Corporation, underground parking lot.
At midnight, Suzy finally wrapped up her work after a long day.
In reality, she didn’t have much left to do.
The project wouldn’t officially launch for a while, and most of the preparatory work was already in place with dedicated personnel handling everything.
But she insisted on overseeing each detail herself because whenever she stopped working, her mind would replay the moment Claude took his last breath before her.
That haunting memory was like a nightmare, as vivid and painful as the day she lost her family, driving her to keep herself busy at all costs.
She reached her car and was about to open the door when her sharp ears picked up the faint sound of footsteps behind her.
Her gaze darkened, and as the steps grew closer, she spun around swiftly. She moved fast, but her assailant was just as quick. The instant she turned, she found herself staring down the cold barrel of a gun aimed straight at her forehead.
“Pathetic woman,” Julian sneered, his bloodshot eyes blazing with rage. “It was bad enough that Claude dared to challenge me, but you—a worthless orphan–think you can take me on too?”
His voice dripped with venom. “I’ll send you to hell, right where that crippled Claude belongs!”
Most would have been paralyzed in fear, but not Suzy.
With a fierce, unyielding gaze, she raised her hand and slapped him across the face.” Julian, if you keep running your mouth, I’ll make sure you end up just like your father— unable to say another word!”
The slap enraged Julian, who snarled, “You’re dead, you bitch! I’ll kill you right now!”
As he spoke, his finger pulled the trigger.
Bang!
The deafening gunshot echoed through the parking lot.
Yet, Suzy stood unharmed.
This time, it wasn’t her quick reflexes that saved her–it was Dylan, who’d been waiting
for her for hours.
He’d arrived that afternoon, waiting in silence until now.

He hadn’t gone up to find her, knowing she wouldn’t want to see him after everything that had happened. She had avoided him before, and now, facing him would be the last thing she wanted.
As Dylan appeared out of nowhere, pulling her into his arms while simultaneously disarming Julian, Suzy’s heartbeat stumbled for just a moment. But the feeling vanished almost as quickly as it came, and she shoved him away the next second.
Without a word to Dylan, she strode directly toward Julian.
Seeing her approach, his mind flashed back to her fierce display at the funeral, and he instinctively retreated, stumbling back. “W–what are you planning to do?”
“What do you think?” Suzy replied coolly, now standing before him.
She seized the hand he had used to hold the gun, and with a sharp crack, twisted it.
“Aaah!” Julian couldn’t hold back his scream as the pain shot through him, his face turning ghostly pale.
Ignoring his cries, Suzy grabbed his other hand.
“No, no, please-” Julian’s voice quivered as he begged. “I was wrong! I won’t do it again! I won’t fight you for Harlow Corporation, I swear!”
She raised an eyebrow. “Really?”
“Yes, yes! I swear it!” Julian stammered, desperate. “I promise!”
“Good. Remember what you said. If you try this again, I’ll take the other hand–and both legs.”
With that, she let go abruptly. “Now get lost!”
Julian didn’t hesitate, scrambling away faster than a startled rabbit.
Turning away, Suzy headed back to her car.
She moved as if Dylan wasn’t even there, reaching for the door to leave.
“Let’s talk.” Dylan’s voice broke the silence just as she was about to get in.
