Many people in the room saw what was happening, yet not a single one moved to intervene. To them, Suzy was nothing but an unwelcome presence.

Despite having the backing of the Goodwin family, Suzy was just a mere caretaker and was far from qualified to lead the Harlow Corporation.
They were more than happy to watch Julian clash with her, secretly hoping the two would take each other down. If that happened, Matthew’s side of the family would be finished, and they wouldn’t have to bow to anyone ever again.
They’d long forgotten that Harlow Corporation was Matthew’s creation, or that everything they had now was thanks to his protection.
All they saw was the years of him ordering them around from above.
As Julian drew closer to Suzy, their excitement grew, and some had even started to whisper among themselves, discussing who might be the most suitable successor.
But none of them could have guessed just how formidable Suzy could be.
Just as Julian’s knife was about to plunge into her back, she spun around with lightning speed and kicked him hard, sending him flying across the room.
The murmuring old men immediately straightened up, sitting stiffly in their chairs, not daring to say another word.
Julian, looking pale and clutching his stomach, struggled to get up. But as soon as he moved, a bitter taste rose in his throat, and he coughed up a mouthful of blood before his eyes rolled back and he passed out.
The onlookers shrank back further, especially as Suzy’s hawk–like gaze swept over them, making them lower their heads even more.
Without paying them any further attention, Suzy instructed someone to carry Julian out, then resumed the funeral for Claude.
She mourned him as if he were family, dressed in somber black attire, lighting memorial candles and leaving a bouquet of fresh lilies, offering a quiet prayer, and bidding him a final farewell.
The burial plot she had chosen was a beautiful spot by the water, nestled against the mountains—a fitting resting place.
Suzy didn’t want Claude to be troubled in his final rest, so she held back her tears through the entire ceremony. But when she placed his ashes into the grave, she could no longer

Realizing she would never see him again in this world, her tears fell like a string of broken pearls, unstoppable and silent.
No one knew the depth of her regret. She had intended to stay by his side to protect him, yet she had brought him to an early death.
He was a year younger than Dylan, not even thirty, still fighting to get back on his feet, still waiting for the right moment to confess his feelings to the girl he loved.
Thinking of the girl he had once mentioned with such tenderness in his eyes, Suzy felt her heart ache even more.
She hadn’t just failed him; she had hurt that girl, too.
She knew she had to find her.
If that girl had truly loved Claude, Suzy would spend her life looking out for her, honoring his memory.
As the funeral ended, Suzy stayed at his graveside, unwilling to leave.
A short distance away, beneath the shade of a large oak tree, Dylan stood alone, watching as Suzy knelt before Claude’s headstone. She hadn’t moved all night, her quiet sobs drifting through the still air to him, laced with sorrow and longing.
It was clear to him now–she truly cared for Claude.
