Raven was the expert in this area–she could lift fingerprints off anything, even items that had been meticulously wiped clean. A few drops of her special solution and the most recent touches would glow in seconds.
But Raven wasn’t here, and calling her in the middle of the night would be inappropriate. After all, Raven had married a regular man and kept her true identity hidden from him. No good wife would slip out in the middle of the night.
Without Raven, Suzy would have to rely on herself. She took out her phone, opened a custom program, and held it near the keypad.
A few beeps later, the screen flashed several numbers. Within half a minute, the elevator doors slid open.
Fingerprint extraction might not be her specialty, but electronics? That was her domain.
She’d expected it to be more difficult, but the lock was surprisingly easy to crack. Amateur work,” she thought with a smirk.
Before stepping inside, Suzy scanned the area carefully. Only when she was sure it was clear did she step into the elevator.
There was no need for her to press any buttons; as soon as the elevator doors closed, the floor display automatically showed her destination–the sixth floor.
When the doors opened, the hallway looked perfectly ordinary. But Suzy knew from experience that the more “normal” things appeared, the more likely something was amiss.
She extended the iron rod out of the elevator door as a test, and in an instant, the rod snapped in two.

crisscrossing infrared lasers. She let out a wry laugh. “Just as I thought.”
In less than a minute, Suzy memorized the intricate web of laser placements, slid her phone back into her pocket, and leaped from the elevator without hesitation.
She moved through the hallway like a graceful dancer–leaping, spinning, crouching–her movements flawless and precise as she navigated the deadly obstacles.
At the end of the corridor was a room filled with white silk drapes hanging from the ceiling. One look was all it took for Suzy to spot the shadow lurking behind the curtains at the far
end.
With narrowed eyes, she threw the remaining half of the iron rod toward the figure. But it hit nothing.
She strode forward with a frown, only to find the iron rod lying on the floor and not a trace of anyone, not even a shadow.
“Damn it!”
He was toying with her, and her patience was running thin.
Then, from the corner of her eye, she caught a glimpse of a shadow moving near the doorway.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Suzy opened the window beside her and leaped out.
In the moonlight, she landed behind the tall figure like an avenging specter, ready to throw him over her shoulder. But he turned sharply as if he’d been expecting her.
Their eyes locked in shock, and they both spoke in unison, “Why is it you?”
