Chapter 37
Neil pov
I walked into the house after the driver had dropped me off. He had a few of my things in the trunk and I watched to see that nothing was missing before turning in, my eyes briefly meeting the illuminated fountain in the middle of the fountain.
“What about Ella?” I asked my mom. She’d come to get me from the hospital, leaving me with a headache with how much she was ranting about it. She’d brought a flock of security men to guide me back to the mansion.
“Well, she’s fine. She didn’t come. She said she had to do something, but she prepared a feast for you, my mom replied.
That was surprising and I wondered for a second if she was upset with me. I did hug Leah first when I regained my consciousness but that was only because I’d thought Leah had lost her life in the process.
“I can’t believe you let yourself get involved with that sneaky little girl. Even her own family dismissed her and stopped having anything to do with her. So what makes you feel like you should be with her?” My mom said.
I groaned as she continued.
“We all know she was cunning and how she willingly took Ella’s place at the wedding. She was only here for her own personal reasons. She has always been weird. I don’t know why.”
My mom was very straight up, and the only thing I could think about was what she had just said. After all the concern I had shown her, she kept asking me the same question. why I was doing this.
She never liked Leah. Everyone wanted Ella from the beginning.
I had no answer. I really had no idea. And I hated myself for it.
“Anyway, we prepared food for you,” my mom continued, noticing my silence.
I simply nodded, wanting nothing but to be laying in my bed, I was aching all over my body, it felt like I was constantly being pinched from head to toe and none of the pain killers from the hospital was working in any way.
I walked into the living room, but I ignored her. I didn’t think I could eat right now.
“Come on, eat your food,” she insisted.
I stared at the table and all the accessories meal placed for me.
The house was extremely bright with huge chandeliers swinging from the ceiling, golden statues of lions and tigers making it seem more like a museum than a living room.
“Ella took her time out to prepare this feast,” my mom pointed out after seeing my hesitation. Her usual made dry from crying because of me and so with a defeated sigh I nodded.
“Just something little.”

“I don’t know why you moved to LA in the first place, but we are going to move all your things back, okay? It’s better for everyone this way,” my mom said as she sat at the dining table.
I sat across from her trying to find the least heavy meal and finally settled on porridge.
“Speaking of which,” she added, “Why don’t you marry Ella? It’s been a few years, you should have forgiven her by now.”
I was startled by her sudden change of topic but I was so used to containing my emotions that I didn’t even stir, nodding in acknowledgement at a house staff who poured me a glass of water.

“Yes, you say that, but I see right through you. You didn’t want to seem too easy because she left you at the altar. But Ella is a good girl. We know that she had good reasons for it. She’s career–oriented. She did everything she wanted to, achieved her goals, and now she’s back. And we all forgave her. She dug into a chicken thigh, her eyes fixed on me as she ranted on
As my mom spoke, it sounded strange to me how easily she forgave Ella, yet disliked Leah.
Well, it was fair, Ella was the one she wanted for me.
Ella was the one I wanted for me too.
And the woman I still wanted. I reminded myself in my subconscious.
“Mom, I’m not talking about this,” I said.
“You should. You’re getting too distracted. There’s no time on your side anymore. It’s been five years, Neil. I think it’s appropriate to say it’s time for you to move on to better things. You deserve to be happy in life, especially with Ella. I don’t understand why you’re holding yourself back.”
I didn’t say anything in response.
“It’s all concluded. We are going to reach out to Ella’s family. She has been living here in the family mansion, just like a daughter–in–law of this family. You should let her move in with you to your room, the only thing left is the rings and paper work, we will make it the talk of the town, a wedding to remember!”
“Mom, I just got back from the hospital. Can we not talk about this?”
“Because you and I never sit to talk anymore. You’re always too busy with work. This is the best time for me to have this conversation with you, Neil” She snapped at me, “when will we get our grandchildren if we continue at this pace? Hm? Tell
me!
“I can’t do this right now, Mom. We’ll have this conversation later,” I said, heading to my room, getting to from the dining table.
I was still in a lot of pain. Aches spread all over my body, and all I wanted was to lay in bed and sleep.
I reached my room, my pain drowning out my mother’s angry voice, flipped the switch on, and immediately jerked back at the sight before me.
It was Ella.
She was on my bed, legs spread apart.
Naked.
