Chapter 32
Neil pov
When I saw her walk into the bar, I thought I was hallucinating 1 had stopped in my tracks.
She had been on my mind so much, only because of how cruel the had been it felt like all the once accound me wa drowned out, and I could only focus on her.
She looked just as beautiful even in such simple clothes but I was too raped to even care
I didn’t even know why I had bothered to take care of her in the first place
She dragged Ella away for a crime she didn’t commit and refused to open up about it.
Ella had continued to claim that she was innocent and didn’t know what Leah was taking about, and I fully beloved ber Because why else would she arrest Ella, without providing us with evidence
I frowned, hating that I had spent so much time looking for her all those years the was gone, a king the type of person she had turned out to be.
And now, it felt like she was everywhere I went. It was all my fault for deciding to move to LA to help her
“Fuck this,” I pound the table I was sitting on, raking angry fingers through my hair, a habit I was desperady trying to sop
I pulled out my phone and called my assistant. “Rearrange for me to go back to New Orleans!
“Really?” he asked. I could hear it in his tone, how he probably thought I was insane for the sudden switch ups.
“Yes, arrange for it as soon as possible.” I wanted to move back to the family mansion, to forget that I ever encountered Leah to forget these past days happened. I could finally move on, and focus on the woman that really mattered to me
It wasn’t until I heard his voice that I realised I was drowning in thoughts.
“But you still have to do the meeting with the workers, so it might take about a week”
“Just get it done.”
I wanted to stay Ella.
far away from her and everything that had to do with her. I was done being a protector. My focS DOM MIS
I put the phone down, took a sip of the wine I had ordered, and then dialed the police station
“Is there any news?” I asked.
“Yes,” the officer replied. “Ms. Leah has not pursued the case so far. She might not press any charges. But for now, until it’s time for her to be taken to trial, you might be able to get Ms. Ella to head back home.”
“Alright, I’ll come pick her up.” I nodded, I was sure that now that my head was clear of finding my ex wife, seeing Ella would cheer me up like it always did in the past before things became complicated.
“Okay, noted.”
“Neil, is that you?” I heard Ella say nto the phone, her voice trembling.
“Hi, Ella,” I replied, remembering how cruelly Leah had gotten her dragged out of my presence.
“Oh my God, Neil, get me out of this horrible place. It’s so disgusting. I keep having nightmares. I need to go back home

with you, she pleaded
“It’s alright, I’m coming for you, okay?” I assured her, trying to keep my tone calm.
Although I had moved her to a VIP cell where she was treated properly, like she was in her own houe, I knew Ella couldn’t handle staying there for long. It wasn’t just about the conditions, it was about the humiliation of being confined at all.
“‘Neil, I told you!” she exclaimed. “That wicked witch is something we should avoid. We should stay away from her! I told you, you shouldn’t have gotten involved with her ever again, and look at what she’s done!”
“I know,” I said quietly. “You were right, and I’m sorry. I’m going to come pick you up, okay?”
Her sigh of relief was audible through the phone, but her voice was still shaky. “Just hurry, Neil. I can’t stay here any longer.
“I’m on my way.” I said before ending the call,
I got up from my seat, ready to head outside and leave. That’s when I noticed that Leah was gone as well. Great. She just had to leave at the exact same time I did.
I started my car and headed toward the police station. That was when I noticed the car speeding abnormally fast on the road from my rearview mirror. Something wasn’t right.
I immediately switched lanes as the vehicle was catching up to mine. And that was when I saw her, Leah as our cars aligned for a nanosecond.
“What the fuck?”
I gripped the wheel so hard my knuckles turned white, my eyes locked on Leah’s car up ahead. Something was wron, I could feel it. The way she was driving, swerving like that, speeding up when the road ahead was narrowing.
“Leah, what the hell are you doing now?” I muttered under my breath, leaning forward as if that would help me see better.
Her brake lights flickered on and off, like she was trying to stop but couldn’t.
That was when I realized the look I’d seen on her face, it seemed like she was afraid, and I thought for a second that maybe she wasn’t in control of the vehicle.
“What?” I whispered under my breath.
I increased my speed so I could catch up with her. Just like her, I switched lanes erratically and when I noticed the panic drives off the road as she sped up, I pressed harder on the gas, closing the distance between us.
The engine roared, but I pushed through. As I got closer, I saw her car jerk suddenly, nearly clipping the divider before. straightening out again.
“Jesus Christ,” I clicked my tongue, “what did you get yourself in now Leah?”
My eyes shot wide when she swerved off the highway taking a road that was completely out of use.
“Call 911,” I ordered my car.
“911, what’s your emergency?” They called back.
“We are on road 2133, I think there’s an out of control car?”
“We’ve gotten several calls from the same situation,” we are on it,” they informed me.
I swerved along with her, “well hurry up she’s,,,” I trailed off, the reason the road was out of use crossing my mind. It led to a
ditch.

“Shit…” I cut the call off, she was heading towards it, and fast.
I increased my speed by now, pulling up alongside her, I turned to look through the passenger window. Her face was pale, her eyes wild and frantic.
She wasn’t even looking at me, her focus was glued to the road ahead. I could see her mouthing something
The ditch was getting closer and closer now and it was only a matter of seconds before she was dangling over was seemed like a cliff.
I pulled ahead over her, going at an even crazier speed and when I was sure there was enough distance between us to gain an impact, I eased into her lane, swerving to the side and positioning my car horizontally. I hit my brakes and I saw the look of horror on her face as her car was heading towards mine.
My eyes closed at the impact of the crash of her car against mine that forced my vehicle to slide further backwards, stopping barely inches from the edge of the ditch.
But it brought her car to a stop.
It all happened so fast, at first there was smoke everywhere and then I looked up.
Her head was leaning against the steering wheel.
“Le..ah..” I gasped, hurrying to unstrap my seatbelt.
I could see her completely shattered windshield, my extremely dented car, and the blood stains on my airbag. I didn’t know where the blood was from but all I could think about was if she had survived or not.
“Leah…” I hurried out of my car, running to her.
I unlocked her door, the smoke from her car blinding me, I unstrapped her seatbelt. Her coughing sounds were accompanied by the sirens closing in on us
I closed my eyes in relief as soon as I heard her cough. Once she was unstrapped, I lifted her in my arms bridal style, “you’re okay,” I assured her as I started to walk toward the ambulance that was pulling up, pressing her head against my chest.
I could hear her crying and screaming my name but it felt like it was coming from the distance, my vision blurred and doubled at the same time but I didn’t let go of her.
“Sir, sir, can you hear me?!” They hovered around us like bees but my mission was to get Leah safely in the ambulance.
Once one of the paramedics received her from me, “he’s lost so much blood!” Someone yelled around me.
The next thing I knew was my legs giving away as I was consumed by darkness.
