“Wh–what are you doing here?” Ella asked, her hands visibly trembling.
Neil almost dropped me to the ground, but I managed to steady myself before I lost my balance. I rolled my eyes.
Of course.
I started to walk away from them, uninterested in their drama, when Ella suddenly grabbed my hand.
She had multiple layers of makeup on her face and that didn’t hide her shock.
“What are you doing here?” she frowned.

“Um, hello? Do I know you? I’m not answerable to you in any way.” I raised a brow at her, taking my hand from her grip like I had just touched filth.
I tried to continue walking, but she wouldn’t stop.
“Why are you here?” she demanded.
Neil stepped in this time. “Um, why are you here?” he asked her.
I could almost hear the disappointment in his voice which surprised me because I knew how much he clearly fancied her more than anything.
“Your mom heard the news about you staying on an island, and she said I should come here to stay with you. I booked us a place so you don’t have to live in that filthy cabin while you’re here for work.”
“That was so unnecessary,” Neil muttered.
“But I’m here now,” Ella said, smiling smugly.
“Mr. Bandy suggested that we all stay there, and no-”
“Are you really going to live like a pauper? Most of the other elites have already moved to their hotels.” Ella cut him short.
I didn’t waste any time walking away from them. “And here you are with this woman,” Ella added snidely.
“Um… Okay, I’m gonna get out of here,” I said, ignoring them both and making my way to the cabin room.
She just had to come and ruin everything for me, I thought bitterly.
Once inside, I found myself something to eat and decided to call my daughter.
“Hey, love. How’s everything?”
“I’m fine, Mommy. How’s everything with you?”
“Yeah, I’m good. I hope you’re eating. And I hope you’re enjoying yourself.” I heard the sound of shuffling in the background, accompanied by the pausing of the television in the background.
“Yes, Mommy.” She finally responded, “strawberry too.”
“Okay, that’s good my love.” I told her, before listening to her recount everything that happened to her today.
Once I dropped the call with Helen, I couldn’t help but feel annoyed,

Why did Ella have to show up and ruin everything like this? Why did she need to make her presence known, like some kind of loser?
I picked up my laptop and started typing out what I had so far. I needed fresh air, so I went down to the ocean side and kept typing.
The sound of the wind was massive today, and the breeze blew my hair all over the place. I heard approaching footsteps, but I didn’t bother to turn around.
“Why have you followed me here?” Ella said behind me. I was surprised but not I expected it. It was Ella after all. She was swarming around Neil like a fly as if she hadn’t abandoned him at the altar and he was foolishly continuing to stay with her.
“I was just about to ask you the same thing,” I replied coldly without looking up.
“Why have you come back into our lives? Everything was fine when we thought you were gone for good.”
I finally looked over my shoulder at her in irritation.
She folded her arms across her chest. “Listen, if you’re trying to take Neil away from me-”
“shouldn’t you be talking to your man instead of me?” I cut her short, getting to my feet and facing her, “If you think there’s something going on between us, shouldn’t you blame him and not me?”
I stood up, brushing invisible dust off her shoulders. “Listen, I don’t care about you or that family. You have nothing to worry about. But I wouldn’t be too relaxed,” my lips turned up in a smirk, “I can’t count how many men would die to be with me, maybe your boo might not be an exception after all.”
The look on her face made me chuckle.
I rolled my eyes. “Why is bad luck following me everywhere?”
I left her side and walked back to the cabin.
I was still pondering my meetings, wondering how I could get out of my head, when all of a sudden the door opened.
I checked my laptop and saw that I had a new email. It was from one of the representatives. They wanted me to go check out
a small, abandoned space that could be reconstructed into a mini mall to display the new clothes.
I was relieved to see I had a new activity to occupy my time.
I glanced over at the bed and noticed that Neil was gone. It seemed he had gone to the place Ella had sent him to.
I rolled my eyes.
Of course, he still wanted to be around that woman. He was displaying someone, that was pure craziness.
much affection around me while being with
I wondered if this was what he had been like during our marriage. Was this how he treated other people? Was this how he treated Ella?
I followed the directions on my phone and finally stopped in front of a small, abandoned shack, practically planted in i middle of the island.
I had asked a few locals for directions along the way and thanked them when I finally arrived.
As I stood there, looking at the building, I began to suspect that one day this space could be something incredible but not without a massive overhaul.
“Yeah, this is a goner,” I muttered, noting it on my phone. It was clear they would need to completely demolish the entire

I sighed, already wanting to head back home. I didn’t think I could stay here for another week. Just knowing that Ella was in the same place had completely ruined my mood. I didn’t want to deal with her at all.
All of a sudden, I heard the door click behind me, and the sound startled me.
I turned quickly and realized that someone had locked the door from the outside.
My heart raced as panic set in. I began to bang on the door furiously.
“Hey! Who’s out there? Open the door!” I shouted, but no one responded.
I was still trying to figure things out when all of a sudden I smelled it. Smoke. And then almost immediately I saw the fire.
My eyes widened and I began to bang the door even harder.
Someone had set the place on fire, and I was trapped in here.
