Chapter 8
Adeleke’s POV
At 6:30PM, I stood at the entrance of the Silver Moon Hotel, watching as pack members arrived, their laughter and warm greetings filling the air. The celebration had begun, but the one wolf I truly needed to see was missing.
My unease deepened with every passing second. Lilliana was never late.
I reached for our mate–bond, seeking her presence, expecting the familiar warmth that had tethered us together for years. But all I found was silence.
A cold knot formed in my chest.
My thoughts raced back to the afternoon, to lunch, to the moment everything shifted.
Martyna’s pained whimper had pulled me from my seat, the scent of distress thick in the air. She had been bleeding.
I had rushed her to the pack healers, every instinct demanding I ensure the safety of my pup.
“The stress is endangering the child,” the healer had warned.
I had planned to return to Lilliana immediately after, but Martyna had grabbed my hand, pressing it against her stomach.
“The pup needs its father,” she had whispered, her voice trembling. “Stay with us.”
I had pulled away. “Lilliana’s birthday-”
But she had curled in on herself, clutching her stomach, her pain stark and undeniable.
My resolve had cracked.
And now, Lilliana was missing.
Panic coiled around my chest like a tightening noose.

I turned sharply as my Beta approached, holding a box wrapped in silver and black, the elegant script on its lid reading:
“Second Mating Gift.”
“Luna prepared two surprises for you, Alpha,” she said carefully. “Would you like to open this now?”
A chill crawled up my spine. My fingers twitched at my sides, but I did not reach for it.
I recoiled as if the box itself could wound me.
Something was wrong. Very wrong.
I grabbed my mind–link, calling the den keeper.
“Where is Lilliana? Send her to the celebration.”
A hesitant silence. Then, the keeper’s voice, uneasy and regretful.
“Alpha… Luna Lilliana left six hours ago. She had packed bags.”
My breath stopped.
“She gave farewell gifts to the staff, thanking us for five years of service. She asked us not to tell you…”
The world tilted, the noise of the celebration fading to a distant murmur.
I turned sharply, my hands clenched at my sides. “Check her documents in the bedside drawer.”
A pause. Then, the keeper’s voice again, hesitant, uncertain.
“Only your papers remain, Alpha.”
“Her identity crystals, travel runes–everything is gone.”
I staggered back, gripping the doorframe to steady myself.
“She… she had all her possessions donated to the orphan pack after you left at noon.”
A heavy silence pressed down on me.

Her documents were gone. Her possessions, given away.
A realization struck like lightning, searing through my chest.
She wasn’t just leaving.
She was never coming back.
