Chapter 186

Liam instinctively grabbed Cassandra’s elbow as she pitched forward. But the moment he realized who it was, his hand recoiled as if the contact burned. His fingers let go with a sudden jerk.

Cassandra, caught mid–fall and expecting his support, lost her balance completely.

Her heel twisted. Her knees buckled. She collapsed to the ground with a hard thud, landing awkwardly on one side of her hip. Her clutch flew from her hand, skidding across the carpet.

A wave of gasps rippled through the press line. Then, an explosion of flashbulbs followed. Cameras clicked furiously as photographers captured every second–her startled face, her dress bunched up at the knee, one strap slipping off her shoulder. Two assistants standing near the edge froze, unsure whether to run to her or stay back.

Liam took a single step away from the scene. His hands dropped to his sides. He looked down at her, impassive.

As if sensing her gaze, Liam turned toward her direction and, without saying a word, left Cassandra on the floor as he marched toward Izzy.

“He’s coming…” Cindy said. For the first time, Izzy heard some sort of excitement in the woman’s voice. “Good thing you look perfect.”

Before Izzy could process what Cindy was talking about, Liam was already in front of her. “You look stunning,” he said before he lowered his head and suddenly captured her lips.

Izzy froze.

Izzy didn’t move. Her eyes widened as Liam leaned in, his hand already cupping her cheek. She barely had time to react before his lips pressed against hers.

The kiss wasn’t rushed, but it wasn’t drawn out either. More than anything, it caught her completely off guard. She didn’t understand what was happening–why he was doing this, here of all places, in front of everyone. By the time her brain caught up, it was already over.

Liam pulled back and looked at her for a second, then reached for her hand.

“I’m sorry i’m late,” he said simply. “Let’s go.”

Izzy didn’t respond. She let him take her hand and lead her through the crowd. Her steps followed his, but her thoughts trailed far behind. Everything around her–the venue, the murmurs, the press, the lights–blurred into the background.

She could still feel the warmth from the kiss on her lips, but she didn’t even know what to make of it. Her fingers curled slightly into his palm. She glanced at him, walking confidently ahead of her, and then back at the hallway they were now entering.

None of it felt real.

It was like watching herself from the outside. As if she had been dropped into someone else’s life.

“What was that?” she whispered before she quietly and sneakily pinched his side. This man just put her on the spot.

However, Liam didn’t flinch when she pinched his side. He simply glanced down at her with the same calm expression he always wore when things were going his way.

Izzy, on the other hand, was still trying to keep up. Her mind played the scene on a loop–the sudden kiss, the way he just marched over like it was the most normal thing in the world, the way he said you look stunning without blinking. She’d kissed him before. Plenty of times. But never like this. Never with this many eyes. Never as a déclaration.

They stepped into the quieter part of the hallway, away from the main crowd, and it was only then that the silence helped things seule. Her face felt warmer now. Her heart, loud. It was like everything caught up at once. Her hand was still in his, and her lips still ringled.

She pressed her other palm to her cheek and immediately regretted it–it was burning, Why the heck was she acting like a teenager when she was a damn married woman!?

Liam leaned down slightly and reached for the glass of water an usher offered as they passed. He held it out to her.

“You should drink. Your face looks like it’s about to explode?

Izzy snatched the glass, glaring up at him. “You kissed me in front of fifty cameras”

He raised an eyebrow, “So?”

She opened her mouth, but nothing came out. She wasn’t even sure what she wanted to say. He kissed her in front of the cameras. In front of everyone, And all he had to say for it was… so?

She blinked, Once, Twice,

Liam looked at her, calm as ever, as if what just happened wasn’t enough to stop the entire room.

Her heart fluttered so hard, it felt like it skipped a beat. What’s his deal?

Then he leaned down, just enough so only she could hear him.

“You’re my wife,” he said. “Why wouldn’t I kiss my wife in public?”

Her breath caught. The words landed softly, but they completely knocked the wind out of her. She wasn’t used to this. She knew how to push through corporate pressure. She knew how to handle contracts and deadlines. But this? This quiet, unexpected tenderness?

She took a slow breath, but her chest still felt full–too full, like her emotions had arrived before her thoughts could catch

up.

Why did he do it?

Her mind scrambled for a reason, a context, something to explain the kiss. Was it spontaneous? Was it planned? Was it just Liam being Liam–decisive, bold, unapologetic? Maybe it was his way of making a statement. Or maybe he just wanted to.
