“Huh?” Izzy frowned at the tablet. The smell of coffee lingered in the air, thick and warm. Liam was in the kitchen behind her, moving around quietly as he finished preparing breakfast. She sat at the table, one leg crossed over the other, eyes glued

to the screen.

Just as she expected, the headlines were already out. The actor and actress caught in the restroom had taken over the entertainment section. The photos were blurry but clear enough to identify them. What followed was a string of articles digging into the actor’s past old accusations, former complaints, and questionable behavior on set. Everything had resurfaced.

But that wasn’t what made her frown.

It was the article below it.

Calen Weiss and Pamella Johnson: Engaged and Possibly Eloped.

Izzy blinked.

The article spun the story in a clean, positive way. According to it, the couple had quietly tied the knot or planned to, with Pamella choosing to keep the details private to avoid unnecessary attention. It even quoted a source saying she preferred simplicity and didn’t like to “show off.”

Izzy slowly set the tablet down.

She knew Pamella. That woman didn’t hide things. She flaunted them.

Liam then placed a plate in front of her. English breakfast. Eggs, toast, sausage, grilled tomatoes. He sat across from her and glanced at the tablet.

“What’s wrong?” he asked.

Izzy tapped the screen once and slid it toward him. “It looks like the Weiss family wants the Blackwell Group’s support badly. This article says Calen and Pamella are engaged. Maybe even eloped.”

Liam took one look and shrugged. “You should stop reading the news first thing in the morning. It’ll ruin your day.”

Izzy narrowed her eyes at him. She rested her elbow on the table, then leaned her face into her palm, staring.

Liam looked up from his plate. “Is there something on my face?”

“There’s something missing from your face,” she said. “That’s the problem.”

He frowned. “What?”

She leaned forward, kissed him on the lips–quick, nothing dramatic–then pulled back.

“There,” she said. “Now there’s nothing missing. You look perfect.”

Liam blinked once.

Izzy picked up her fork and started eating like nothing happened, leaving Liam speechless… once again.

After breakfast, Liam stood and grabbed his keys from the counter.

“Let’s go.”

Izzy looked up from the sink where she was rinsing her coffee cup. “Go where?”

“Groceries,” he said, already heading for the door.

Izzy followed him out, still confused. By the time they reached the store, she was eyeing him from the side. “You actually shop for groceries?”

Liam didn’t answer. He pushed the cart straight into the produce section and stopped in front of the leafy greens.

Izzy picked up a bundle of spinach and turned it over. “This looks fresh.”

Liam took it from her hand, checked the bottom stems, then placed it back on the shelf. “It’s not. Look here.” He pointed at the slightly browning edges near the roots. “That’s already starting to wilt.”

She watched him as he picked up another bunch, checked it again, then placed it carefully into the cart.

“Since when do you know how to pick vegetables?” she asked.

“I know how to cook,” he said. “I’m not going to waste time with bad ingredients.”

Izzy grabbed a bell pepper and held it up. “This one okay?”

Liam glanced at it. “It’s soft.”

She frowned, gave it a light squeeze, and quietly returned it to the pile.

They went aisle by aisle. Liam grabbed what he needed without hesitation. A few tomatoes, red onions, a pack of pasta, and fresh herbs. He didn’t overthink anything, but he was deliberate.

Izzy pushed the cart and watched him grab a bunch of bananas. “So you really do this often.”

“I don’t like waiting for things to be delivered,” he said. “And I don’t trust people to pick the right stuff.”

At the dairy section, she reached for a carton of milk. He took it from her, checked the date, then gave it back. “This one’s fine.”

She rolled her eyes but smiled.

By the time they reached the checkout, their cart was full, but nothing felt excessive. Just enough.

Outside, Liam carried the heavier bags without saying anything. Izzy walked beside him, arms tucked into her coat.

“I didn’t think I’d see you checking the stems of spinach on a quiet Saturday,” she said.

Liam unlocked the car. “Now you know.”

Izzy opened the door and slid in. “It suits you, actually.”

He glanced at her but didn’t respond.

She looked ahead, watching people come and go from the store. The whole morning had been simple. Peaceful.

And she didn’t mind that at all.

Sadly, this peace didn’t last that long.

“And this must be Isabella? Hi…” Margarette said, a smile apparent on her face as she held a hand toward Izzy. However, before Izzy could say a word, Liam already held her hand.

“It’s a pleasure seeing you, Mrs. Horvath, but we still have things to attend to,” Liam said.

“But–Right, it’s been so long since you visited your brother. Why don’t we have-”

“We have more important things to attend to,” Liam said, pursing his lips before he carefully let Izzy inside the car. Without asking questions, Izzy sat in the front seat.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mrs. Horvath, but we still have some appointments,” Izzy smiled. She didn’t wait for Margarette to say another word as she closed the door. Almost immediately, Liam also got into the driver’s seat and started driving.

For a moment, the two didn’t say a word to each other. Then Liam’s phone started ringing.

“Are you going to answer that?” she asked. She could clearly see the caller–Mr. Horvath. She immediately assumed that this was not his grandfather. Liam, despite everything, was close to the old man.

Liam didn’t answer the call. It ended after a few seconds, but then it rang again.

Izzy looked at him. His grip on the wheel was tight, his jaw set. She didn’t say anything at first, just turned her gaze to the road ahead. When the phone rang for the third time, she finally spoke.

“Pull over,” she said.

Liam didn’t respond.

“Liam. Stop the car.”

He glanced at her, then exhaled and guided the car shifted into park but didn’t move to take the call.

The phone lit up again. Same name.

“You don’t have to like Margarette, but there’s a child involved now. Your brother’s been asking about you. I know you dislike Margarette, but the least that you could do is disrespect her in front of her child! In front of your brother! This is the problem for kids who grew up without their parents. I guess Father spoiled you too much!”

Izzy sat quietly, watching Liam’s expression. He still didn’t speak.

“Come by for dinner,” the man continued. “Bring your girlfriend. Or whatever she is. Your grandfather and brother would like to see you, too.”

Before Liam’s father could say another word, Izzy leaned forward.

“Don’t talk to him like he’s some disobedient kid,” she said, her voice cold. “He’s not obligated to come to dinner just because you suddenly remembered you have a son.”
