“You’re overthinking it. No one’s tailing me. The Langstons hardly give a damn about me now. Your death didn’t earn their genuine care!”
Evelina’s voice cracked with emotion, recounting the countless grievances she endured within the Langston household. After years of playing it small and submissive, just because Lemira had the guts to walk away, it made her brothers regret their negligence.
How she loathed them.
Despite doing so much more than Lemira, why was her effort and sacrifice invisible to them?
“It’s good that you’ve come to realize this. I’ve been telling you not to be so blindly devoted to the Langstons, and now you’re tasting the bitter consequences. We’re your real family.”
“Now I know, and I swear, the Langstons will regret ever crossing me.”
Evelina was fuming, her eyes red with unshed tears, vowing never to let the Langstons, including Lemira, off the hook.
Lemira returned to the hospital with Orion by her side.
Her mood had dipped, unable to fathom how Caspian could be so cruel over a misunderstanding – thinking she had abandoned him.
How ludicrous.
Caspian chose to believe Evelina’s lies over her truth.
Orion placed his hands on Lemira’s shoulders, “Don’t dwell on it. The one suffering now is him, not you.”
“But I don’t need his fake explanations and apologies.”
“You’re right. At the end of the day, they’re all selfish, blaming you for their mistakes,” Orion felt the Langston brothers took Lemira’s sacrifices for granted, only realizing their loss too late, their apologies insincere.
His heart ached more with each thought, “If only I had come to find you sooner, you wouldn’t have had to suffer so much.”
He was full of regret.
Lemira smiled, “No, you came at just the right time.”
At that moment, she had just been reborn, seeing through her brothers‘ hypocrisy, determined to leave the Langstons behind. Had it been earlier, she might have continued her blind support, unable to heed Orion’s advice.
Orion looked down at the girl before him, “Still, I wish to make it up to you.”
“You’ve done nothing wrong. What’s there to make up for?” Orion was genuinely kind to her.
Lemira looked up into his handsome face, “Orion, I truly like you.”
She leaned in closer, and he gently held her face, a hint of reluctance in his voice, “Let me take the initiative next time.”
Orion kissed her forehead tenderly.
Lemira wrapped her arms around him, resting her head against his chest, “Can’t it be mutual?”
“Because I want to give more.”

Lemira, blushing, reminded him, “Your phone’s been ringing non–stop. Must be something important.”
Orion, reluctantly letting go, “There’s a meeting. I’ll come back to you later.”
“Okay.”
Watching Orion leave, Lemira touched her flushed cheeks.
Is this what being in love felt like?
She almost wished he didn’t have to go.
Returning to her hospital bed, Lemira checked her phone and saw a video from Caspian – Evelina being publicly shamed.
She watched with a sardonic smile.
Truly a dog–eat–dog world.
At that moment, the PR team entered.
Debby approached her, “Ms. Langston, we’ve had someone tailing the Langstons. Evelina was seen meeting someone in a café after being kicked out of the car.”
“Who did she meet?”
Debby sent the photo to Lemira’s phone, “The person was cautious, we only got a profile shot. Take a look.”
Lemira’s face paled upon seeing the photo.
