Lemira nodded, a mocking smile playing on her lips. “Right, as if saying anything now would make a difference.
I regret my actions back then; I should have just left you to your fate.”
Her sarcasm lit a fire in Caspian’s eyes.
“Lemira, you’re saying this because you can’t explain yourself, right?”
Evelina chimed in with a smirk, “Lemmy, Caspian couldn’t even handle those thugs. How did a delicate flower like you manage to escape? That doesn’t add up.”
“True, I ended up getting caught, and they even threatened me to make a call to someone, asking for a personal ransom.”
Lemira locked eyes with Caspian, “I didn’t call you. I called someone from the Langstons.”
Caspian, pressing his lips together, asked, “Who? Lucian?”
Hearing Lucian’s name, Evelina snickered, “But Lucian always had a soft spot for Lemmy.”
If it was Lucian, she believed she could deny everything.
Lemira’s smile was tinged with irony as she stared at Evelina, “Sorry to disappoint you, but I called Asher.”
The color drained from Evelina’s face.
A call to Asher?
What now?
Right then, Asher’s car pulled up beside them, and he stepped out, “Lemira, have you finally come to regret not calling me?”
Turning to face Asher, Lemira said, “There’s something I’ve been wanting to ask you. After all, I can’t keep carrying the blame for all these years.”
“What is it?”
“You remember the incident with Caspian fighting those thugs, almost dying in that alley, right?”
Asher nodded, “I remember. It was you who diverted the thugs, giving Caspian a chance to escape. But then, you were caught. They forced you to make a call, and just as I returned from my trip, I called you. I came to your rescue.”
Silence fell over the group.
Evelina, trembling with fear, took several steps back, thinking of escaping.
Lemira turned back to Caspian, “Did you hear that? You didn’t believe me, nor did you believe Lucian. Will you believe him?”
Caspian’s ears rang with disbelief.
This couldn’t be true.
He stared at Evelina, hiding in the corner, and roared, “Get over here and explain what the hell happened!”
Evelina, terrified, tried to run but was caught by the bodyguards.
She sobbed, “Caspian, I didn’t know Lemmy had lured those thugs away.”
“Then why did you lie just now?”
Caspian grabbed Evelina’s hair with such force, his eyes bloodshot with anger.

Evelina screamed in pain, “Caspian, I was just speaking the truth, and my earlier words were merely a guess. Lemira didn’t tell you either, right? Why is she speaking up only now?”
Caspian looked up at Lemira, “Why didn’t you tell me back then? Why didn’t you let me know?”
Lemira glanced at Asher with a smirk, “Because Asher said he would tell you.”
Asher looked slightly uneasy, “I must’ve forgotten to mention it. I thought, well, you were siblings after all, and Eve did save Caspian. So, I thought, what’s done is done.”
“Asher, do you realize how much you’ve hurt me?”
Caspian’s voice broke slightly.
It was this misunderstanding that made him resent Lemira all these years, allowing Evelina to torment her.
And it was all just a misunderstanding!
The liar was Evelina. He had been deceived for so long.
Caspian turned to Lemira, his lips quivering, “I didn’t know it was you who saved me.”
Could she ever forgive him just this once?
