Evelina’s face was as pale as a ghost, and she couldn’t find the words to respond.
Trembling with fear, she stammered, “I didn’t say anything, please don’t blame me.”
Now she was in deep trouble. If Caspian found out, she was as good as dead.
Lemira, observing Evelina’s guilty demeanor, had a pretty good guess of what had transpired.
She turned to Caspian, “Remember that time you almost got beaten to a pulp by those thugs in the alley?”
“Lemira, you finally remembered. Don’t you feel a bit guilty?”
“Why should I? I ran out of the alley to get help for you. That’s when I bumped into Evelina, but the thugs found us. They threatened us to reveal your whereabouts.”
Caspian frowned deeply. “Lemira, did you tell those thugs where I was?”
“The one who betrayed your location was Evelina, not me. If I hadn’t distracted Evelina by claiming I knew where you were and led them in the opposite direction, you wouldn’t be here today.”
Lemira remembered it all too well.
Ever since that incident, Caspian had been increasingly hostile towards her.
On the other hand, Evelina seemed to grow closer to Caspian, who often came to her defense.
Lemira couldn’t figure out why, mistakenly thinking Evelina had stolen yet another brother figure from her.
So, this was the real reason.
After hearing this, Caspian glanced at Evelina, “Is this true?”
“Caspian, it’s not like that. That day, it was Lemmy who panicked and wanted to disclose your location, but I stopped her. Then I quietly went back to the alley to find you and took you to the hospital.”
Evelina’s face was drained of color, and admitting the truth was not an option.
After all, years had passed without witness.
No one would believe Lemira’s word over hers.
Yet, Caspian fell silent.
Orion eyed Evelina, “If Lemira was the one who pointed out Caspian’s location, why didn’t the thugs go after him, but you did?”
Evelina stuttered, “I managed to throw the thugs off track.”
“And how did you manage that? What was Lemira doing at the time?”
Under Orion’s relentless questioning, Evelina became visibly flustered, “I can’t remember exactly what I did, and Lemira… she was so scared she just ran off, even claiming she barely knew Caspian and that I was his real sister.”
Lemira scoffed, “Evelina, you’re still a master of lies, I see.”
“I’m not lying.”
“You claim you can’t remember what you did, but you seem to recall my actions very clearly.”
Lemíra glared at Evelina. “The reason you ‘can’t remember‘ is that I was the one who lured those thugs away, something you couldn’t possibly claim.”
Because admitting it would give her away.
Evelina, now sweating bullets, insisted, “No, I really can’t remember, Caspian, you have to believe me.”

Caspian glanced at Evelina before fixing his gaze on Lemira, “Without evidence, your word is as good as any. How can I believe you didn’t abandon me considering you’re even trying to sabotage me now?”
Caspian wasn’t quite convinced Lemira had actually saved him.
Lemira’s expression turned icy. “And Evelina’s words are without evidence too, yet you believed her? It’s all about trust, isn’t it?”
Caspian, looking uneasy, pressed on, “You say you led those thugs away, but how did you escape them? They’re not the kind to be easily evaded, especially by a young girl like you.”
Lemira’s face darkened, a shadow passing over her features.
She remained silent for a moment before replying, “That’s not a memory I cherish.”
Upon hearing this, Orion immediately took her hand, “You don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to.”
