emira couldn’t help but scoff when she heard the silence on the other end of the phone.
“Here I was, thinking if you’d take responsibility, I’d have to apologize. But you didn’t give me the chance! Tsk.”
The sarcasm was off the charts.
Ashel, red with anger, retorted, “Lemira, why are you stirring up trouble between my siblings and me? What do you gain from this?”
“I’m doing you a favor, honestly. Or else, why don’t you all just go to jail together? A real picture–perfect family moment.”
“Oh, keep dreaming.”
Lemira put on another show: “So, Mr. Asher, that’s why I gave you three siblings a choice to decide who among you would take the fall.
Isn’t that looking out for you?”
“If Alaric goes to jail, his career is over. Have you no heart?”
“That’s so selfish of you. Why don’t you take the fall for your brother? Always talking about family being thicker than water. But when push comes to shove, it’s your brother who has to bear the responsibility. How selfish.”
Lemira covered her mouth, trying to hide her laughter.
Orion, watching her, thought she resembled a cunning little fox.
Asher’s temper flared. “Lemira, don’t get too cocky. Even if Alaric takes the blame, without a lawyer, you’ll lose the case. Just wait and see!”
“So, you called just to tell me that?”
“Yes, to give you a reality check. Withdraw the lawsuit to avoid public embarrassment.”
“See you in court, then!”
Lemira hung up, confident in her prediction that he wouldn’t take responsibility.
Orion spoke up, “So, is it Alaric taking the fall? He was barely involved, not even the one who took the photos.”
“Lemon, doesn’t this seem too easy on them, especially that scheming girl?”
Lemira smiled. “I’m slowly ripping off their family’s mask of unity, watching Evelina lose everything, dragging the Langstons down with her.”
She was
eager for the moment when their so–called family ties would crumble.
This would serve them right for her past sufferings.
Thaddeus applaud
“Well done. I can’t wait to see your brothers‘ faces when they see Evelina’s true colors.”
Lemira stood up. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll head back.”
Passing by Orion, she glanced at his phone on the table. The next second, his hand was on it, eyes meeting hers.
Lemira coughed and turned away. Orion was on high alert.
After she left, Orion’s expression turned cold. “Is this mess with the lawyer because of your cousin Dorian?”
“I’ll check. If it’s him, I’ll make him pay.”
Thaddeus considered the possibility of Dorian’s involvement.
Orion, receiving a message, stood up. “I’ll handle it.”
“Where to?”
“The gym.”
Without another word, Orion left.
Thaddeus sighed. Such drama.
Back at university, Lemira headed straight for the gym.
After changing, she went to the equipment area to work on her strength, as advised by her coach for better physical conditioning. As she was figuring out a machine, a young man approached. “First time here? Let me show you how it works.”
After a brief demo, Lemira thanked him politely.
“No problem. You look young. A student at Orvin University?”

mira responded half–heartedly, and the man’s eyes lit up. “A bright student, eh? I always had a soft spot for the academically gifted” Lemira remained silent.
The young man continued, “I was too poor for college, went into business instead. Made it big when my company went public. Still, I regret not getting more education. Always admired well–read girls.”
Finding him bothersome, Lemira moved on to another machine.
