Lemira finally agreed, “Alright, I’ll swing by the company tomorrow.”
Consider it a debt repaid.
The next day, Lemira headed to the Langston Group bright and early.
Standing before the towering skyscraper, she felt as if she were living a past life. She made a beeline for the executive suite on the top floor.
Hogan, the secretary, had been waiting for her, “Ms. Langston, right this way.”
Entering the office, Lemira was surprised to see Lucian there, already discharged from the hospital.
Lucian, trying to win her over, stood up, “Lemmy, you’re here so early. Did you grab breakfast? I picked up a bunch of your favorites.”
ergira saw the table laden with breakfast items.
Lucian reached for a jelly doughnut, cautiously saying, “Lemmy, I remember you loved these.”
A mocking smile danced on Lemira’s lips, “It was Evelina who loved jelly doughnuts, not me.”
At that moment, Lucian’s hands trembled. He clumsily tossed the doughnut aside, “Look at me, getting it all mixed up. What you really like is bagels.”
Lemira was calm, “My favorite is pancakes.”
Not jelly doughnuts, nor bagels.
Lucian nearly lost his footing, guilt making it hard for him to breathe, his expression uglier than tears, “Lemmy, I’ve been such an inadequate brother, could you give me another chance?”
Lemira, picking up some documents from the table, replied coolly, “Why bother? Isn’t it fine?”
Everyone living peacefully, without interfering in each other’s lives.
Lucian’s eyes reddened, “Lemmy, but I wanna make it up to you.”
“No need,” with that, Lemira left the office.
Hogan, disappointed, looked at Lucian, “Sir, how could you mess up such a good opportunity.”
Lucian, with a wry smile, “I’m sure she liked it. Zack told me so.”
As Lucian thought further, his mood darkened, “Did Zack deliberately mislead me?”
“Sir, it’s because you didn’t remember Ms. Langston’s preferences. It shows you really didn’t care about her.”
Lucian slumped on the couch, stomach in knots from distress, “What can I do to make it up? Do you have any ideas?”
He genuinely wanted to mend things with Lemira!
After some thought, Hogan suggested, “I’ll talk to the branch manager, say Ms. Langston is joining the workforce, and they should treat her with respect. Start with the little things.”
“You’re right. I could let her manage the branch. That way, she’ll see my sincerity, right?”
Lucian recalled Lemira had once expressed a desire to run a company.
Lemira left the top floor without looking back, heading straight for the branch office.
She knew what’s wrong with the firewall; it needed fresh code written on–site and testing.
Checking her phone, Lemira found a message. [Lemmy, I’m sorry. I messed up, got your preferences wrong. It won’t happen again.]
She didn’t need to guess it’s from Lucian.
But she really couldn’t care less now. Why couldn’t Lucian understand?
Entering the branch, Lemira approached the reception, “Hi, I’m the engineer to fix the software.”
“Lempira, what are you doing here?”
Evelina, dressed in designer brands from head to toe, came in, eyeing Lemira warily.
Lemira remained unfazed, “It’s none of your business.”
The manager, having hurried out upon hearing Ms. Langston was inspecting the work, was now in a bind.
The manager cast few glances at Lemira and Evelina, confusing about which one was Ms. Langston.

The receptionist glanced at Lemira, “This lady is here for an engineering job.”
Eager to impress, the manager approached Evelina, assuming the lavishly dressed girl must be Ms. Langston.
