I lost the baby.
When I heard the news, my entire body went limp, and I struggled to breathe.
A crushing sense of grief weighed heavily on my chest, and there was nowhere to release it.
I wanted to cry, to scream, but no sound came out, no matter how wide I opened my mouth.
It turns out that when sorrow reaches its peak, you can’t cry.
I had known this would happen the moment he laid a hand on me, but when it was confirmed, I still couldn’t accept it.
After I regained some emotional composure, I immediately took photos of the abuse, gathered all the evidence, and sent it to my lawyer.
I was discharged from the hospital half a month later.
During this time, Ethan didn’t contact me, but Grace somehow found my WhatsApp and added me.
She sent me numerous photos of herself with Ethan.
“Ethan and I have known each other for as long as he’s loved me. If I had agreed to his confession back then, where would you even fit in?”
“He’s never loved you. Marrying you was just something he settled for. Now that I’m back, of course, he’ll choose me.”
I didn’t understand why Grace sent me these messages.
Maybe she was marking her territory, or perhaps she was getting back at me because I kicked her.
But I didn’t care anymore.
After I was discharged, I helped my lawyer prepare all the necessary documents for the

The next time I saw Ethan, it was in court.
Neither of us spoke a word the entire time.
It wasn’t until we were outside the courthouse that Ethan blocked my path, his face pale with fury, and he said through gritted teeth,
Autumn, everything I have now, I earned through my own efforts. How dare you try to get me to leave with nothing?”
Grace, who had rushed over, overheard everything and gasped in disbelief.
“What! Leave with nothing?”
I ignored both of them and tried to leave.
But Ethan, still stubborn, grabbed my wrist.
“Who do you think you are, trying to take everything from me?”
I stopped, turned to face him, and said coldly,
“Let the court decide what happens.”
“Ethan, some things–at least, conscience–should not be abandoned.”
With those words, I wrenched his hand off me with all my strength.
As I turned to walk away, I could still hear Grace’s voice arguing behind me, and Ethan’s voice attempting to soothe her.
“It’s okay, even if we have nothing left, as long as I have you
with me.”
Grace reflexively retorted,
“Why would I stay with you
if there’s nothing left
I didn’t look back at the commotion and drove away.
Not long ago, I happened to run into one of Ethan’s classmates, and we talked for a while.
From her. I learned that Grace had always had a chaotic relationship with men in school, frequently changing boyfriends.
At that time, she thought little of Ethan’s humble background and had never accepted hist
advances.
But now, with Ethan’s career thriving and him doting on her, they ended up together.
I also learned that while studying abroad, Grace’s behavior was even worse–she frequently engaged in orgies, and her reputation was completely ruined in the study–abroad community.
Everyone who knew them from school was well aware of Grace’s past, but Ethan had no
