Love Story4–Chapter 1
Today marks the third anniversary of my marriage to Stephen Thomas. The clock on the wall had already struck midnight, and the dinner on the table had gone cold, with the candles burnt out. Normally, Stephen would be home on time, but tonight, there hadn’t been a single word from him.
wanted to call, but just as I opened the call screen, a message popped up on WhatsApp:
“Rosalie, something came up tonight, so I won’t be coming home.”
“So late? Can’t it wait until tomorrow?”
“A crucial client just asked to meet about a contract. You go ahead and sleep, okay?”
“Fine.”
And then… nothing. No more replies.
Looking at Stephen’s profile picture–a small white cat–I felt an odd sense of familiarity, but I couldn’t recall where I’d seen it before. Just as I was about to put my phone away out of boredom, I saw a news article pop up.
The headline read: “Top Actress’s Divorce Due to Infidelity?” The comments below were filled with guesses about the man in question, with some even analyzing frame by frame to figure out which celebrity it might be. But I recognized the tall figure embracing Ophelia Martin in the photo instantly–it was my husband, Stephen.
For three years, Stephen had never forgotten our anniversary, and he had never lied to me. Yet now, it was all because of Ophelia.
Suddenly, I recalled the day Stephen first confessed his feelings to me.
