A year ago, I had a miscarriage due to medication complications.
I’d always been in poor health, and after six years of marriage, we still hadn’t conceived.
Eventually, Ryan’s family grew restless about it.
Ryan repeatedly shielded me from his family’s pressure for grandchildren.
He said he didn’t like children, worried that if we had a baby, I wouldn’t love him as much.
But I knew he longed for a child.
So I suggested IVF, and finally got pregnant.
But after just two months, we lost her.
I underwent the procedure to terminate.
During my recovery month, I didn’t speak a word.
That’s when Ryan realized I’d fallen into depression.
Finally, one day, I could speak again.
He held me, his whole body trembling as he cried: “Honey, we don’t need children. I just need you. You’re enough for me.”
“Please don’t be like this. You’re scaring me, honey.”
For Ryan’s sake, I pulled myself together and voluntarily sought therapy.
He hated having strangers in the house, but he hired a housekeeper to take care of me.
He tended to me constantly, telling me every day how much he loved me.

Thinking of all our intimate moments together, I felt desperate enough to go insane.
Emma carefully observed my expression, snorting coldly, her eyes brimming with triumph.
“Autumn, blame yourself for not being able to keep your man.”
“Let me tell you something else – I was sent by Ryan’s mother. Want to know where our first
time was? At the family estate, while you were at the hospital for IVF. Ryan must have been
so pent up, he took it all out on me before going back to you!”
“After that, he came to the estate every few days. I just mentioned wanting to see him daily,
and he bought me an apartment above yours and moved me into your house.”
I took a deep breath, walked up to her, and slapped her hard across the face.
Emma clutched her cheek and screamed: “You dare hit me?”
I slapped her again.
Emma’s fair cheek instantly swelled red, tears rolling down her face.
“Still hitting? Are you crazy? It’s easy to hit me – why don’t you go hit Ryan?!”
I smiled coldly and grabbed her chin: “Since when do I need a reason to hit a
homewrecker?”
Emma’s almond eyes went wide, her pretty face twisting slightly as she watched me warily.
“I’m pregnant!”

“Ha, are you jealous of my pregnancy? Trying to make me miscarry? Let me tell you, I’m
not unlucky like you. Ryan says babies conceived naturally like ours are love’s creation. He didn’t want your baby at all he called it a monster!”
“Want to know why you miscarried? It was him.”
A sharp ringing pierced my ears, my head pounding with waves of noise.
For a moment I went deaf: “What did you say?”
