Chapter 3
I drove myself to the hospital right away.
The doctor explained the medication instructions while cautioning me:
“You’re showing signs of a threatened miscarriage. You need to take care of yourself and be
xtra cautious during this time.”
Back at the marital home I shared with Tyler Horton, I packed my belongings while
pondering my next move.
I could leave easily.
After all, though Tyler and I had been married for a year, we never officially registered the
marriage.
The reason was simple.
Tyler believed that letting someone like me, who supposedly conspired against Sarah
Carlisle, have a wedding ceremony with him was already a grand mercy.
Not registering the marriage was one of his preconditions for marrying me.
Thanks to him,
our so–called marriage over the past year had been nothing more than a cohabitation
arrangement.
The second condition for our marriage was even more absurd:
any child I gave birth to would have to be given to Sarah to raise.
“You’re her older sister, and since you’re the one who caused her inability to have children, it’s your debt to repay!”
Ridiculous as these terms were, I agreed to them when I had just woken up from my coma.
After being knocked unconscious during the kidnapping, I was in a coma for an entire

When I woke up, my memories were frozen at the point before Sarah’s arrival.
Before Sarah came, I had a loving mother, and my father, Barny Carlisle, also doted on me.
Even Tyler was utterly devoted to me.
But when I regained consciousness, my mother had already passed away, and
ad grown cold and distant.
All my hopes for the future rested on Tyler Horton.
I was terrified of losing him, terrified that he would abandon me too.
my father
In that state of overwhelming fear, I agreed to his humiliating marriage conditions without much thought.
But after we married, I realized something:
time is objective–it clears the fog and brings clarity to even the most confused and chaotic
minds.
Cradling my stomach, I made up my mind.
I had to escape, far away from all of this.
Just then, I heard the sound of the front door opening downstairs.
I froze. I hadn’t expected Tyler Horton to return.
If he caught me packing, it would spell trouble.
I locked the bedroom door and went downstairs.
I would just send him away again.
But when I reached the first floor, I realized it wasn’t Tyler.
It was my half–sister and Tyler’s mistress, Sarah Carlisle.
