Chapter 6
I, who had four younger sisters and one younger brother at home, was the eldest sister in the
family.
Just when I turned 12, my family, being too poor, had to sell me to raise money to support my younger siblings.
It was the Matthews family’s poverty alleviation and education fund that saved me. My parents received assistance and finally allowed me to continue my studies.
I studied hard and got admitted to the best university in the province, successfully leaving the
mountains behind.
In order to establish roots in the big city, I noticed the kind–hearted Madam Matthews, who used to
attend donation events in the mountains every year.
Just as a storm hit, her car got stuck in the mud, in a very critical situation.
I gritted my teeth and pulled her out of the car, carrying her on my back as we walked out of the mountains, away from danger, in the pouring rain.
From then on, Madam Matthews always remembered my kindness and resilience, hoping that I would become her daughter–in–law.
It was not until I met Ethan, arranged by her, that I realized he was the senior I had admired for four years in college.
Fortunately, during his university years, he noticed me, but later on, he couldn’t find any trace of me, thinking that he had missed out on a regret.
I thought true love had arrived and that I could be happy for the rest of my life.
The day before our wedding, Ethan slapped a stack of photos onto my face.
I tried my best to follow the evidence provided by Madam Matthews.
In his eyes, everything tasted different.
The accidents in the mountainous area were caused by me.
The purpose was to use a favor to blackmail Grandma into arranging a match for us.
I was nothing but a vain and materialistic woman from beginning to end.
My love instantly vanished in the blink of an eye, and on the following day of our wedding, I directly

brought the intruder into our bridal chamber and slapped my face.
He used the power of the Matthews family to directly dissolve our marriage, leaving me with an empty name and an empty house.
My despair reached its peak in the never–ending game of infidelity with different lovers year after
year.
A year ago, I told Madam Matthews that I really couldn’t continue anymore.
Madam Matthews wept bitterly.
“Ethan was the third generation single heir, and the Matthews family’s lineage absolutely could not come from the belly of some random woman from outside.”
“Please, just take in one child, regardless of gender. I beg you, repay the kindness of the Matthews family all these years!”
But in all these years of marriage, Ethan didn’t even touch me with a finger.
So, Madam Matthews, in a desperate move, forced him to have a child with me.
Ethan reluctantly slept with me for a night, and he insulted me, making me feel worthless.
Fortunately, I became pregnant successfully.
During the third month of my pregnancy, I was provoked by Ethan, my 98th lover, and almost had a miscarriage after falling down the stairs.
He prevented me from calling an ambulance, his eyes as cold as ice.
“This child was never meant to be born, a bastard, and now it’s its fate to go and die!”
Fortunately, Madam Matthews visited temporarily and saved the child’s life.
Everything Ethan thought I was plotting was only for the sake of repaying him.
At this moment, the truth was revealed, and he regretted it deeply, crying out in pain.
“How could I be so foolish! I loved her, yet I hurt her time and time again!”
Madam Matthews helped him up and took him to my funeral parlor.
“Megan’s body has been found, let’s quickly lay her to rest.”
The person in the coffin was in pieces, and the mortician reluctantly stitched the remains together
so that the facial features could be recognized.

Ethan gently brushed aside my hair, touching it behind my ear.
His face suddenly changed color.
