The farce was eventually exposed in the past.
Katherine’s rumor was self–defeating and quickly disappeared from everyone’s sight.
I heard that she became the mistress of a big shot in the circle, and recently she has been troubled by the original wife. She can only hide and wander around, with no fixed abode.
And Duffy, although still in school, had completely settled down. Every day after school, she would be dragged back to the villa by Allison, by the collar. As for what they did inside, Remington and I
didn’t dare to ask.
Later, I went to the monastery where Remington used to stay by himself.
I saw the abbot inside. He had presided over my funeral in the past and had witnessed my body being pushed into the crematorium.
But when he saw me alive and well, he seemed not at all surprised, but rather had a relieved expression, inviting me into the antechamber.
I asked, “Remington spent those five years here, right?”
The abbot bowed to me and said, “Mr. Maxwell was truly devout.‘
I continued, “Meditation Religion emphasizes causality, where all phenomena arise from causes and conditions. So, what is the cost of my rebirth, you can also just tell me directly, how much longer can I live, or… how much longer can Remington live?”
The abbot paused and said, “Mrs. Maxwell was a blessed person, who lived to be a hundred years old and had a peaceful end.”
My heart sank, and I tightened my grip on the coffee cup, and said with difficulty, “What about Remington?”
The abbot simply said, “The fate of individuals is predetermined in the depths of the afterlife. In this world, blessings and misfortunes are intertwined, impermanent and devoid of self. Clinging to desires only leads to suffering. Sometimes, being confused is also a form of wisdom.”
I forced a bitter smile and said, “If only everyone could understand this, Remington wouldn’t have stayed here for so long without figuring it out.”
After saying that, I thanked the abbot and walked out of the monastery. Remington was waiting for me quietly outside the monastery.

The Monastery was filled with boundless brightness.
Outside the Monastery, there rolled the bustling world, filled with greed, anger, ignorance, and
complaints.
There was always a sense of longing, Remington and I were destined to never be together.
I approached and grabbed Remington’s hand. He looked at me with a smile and asked, “What did you find out by going in?”
I also looked at him with a smile and said, “It’s nothing, just wanted to say that no matter where you go, I will always be with you.”
Remington shook my arm and pouted a little, saying, “So what about our Allison?”
“Oh, then let’s wait until Allison grows up before going somewhere else.”
“Ah, when will we have to wait until…”
